Niggle with reverse cam on GTI Mk6

The camera is ready to go within a few seconds of startup, you open the door and the unit starts booting, even if you sit straight in and start the car it displays the camera as the OPS/Camera component is one of the first to load, followed by Music and the remainder with Navigation towards the end of the startup sequence.

+1. Sometimes the VW / Dynaudio splash screen hasn't gone when I put the 118TSI into reverse, but I haven't had the camera picture fail to come up. Have you tried rebooting the RNS 510? (hold both arrow keys and press the i key once) and then seeing if the picture comes up. Was your RNS510 factory or dealer fitted?

This is a good discussion as it explains why my RNS-510's Hard Disc always spins up when I open the drivers door, even when the car is not started. I still manage to beat it though as it has not started the navigation by the time I back out onto the street.

I'll give the opening door technique a try.
I just needed to know this was normal and not an isolated problem in my car.
Its not a great issue taking into consideration the fantastic electronics that run in the car.
Funnily I had the issue as I was leaving the dealership and the dealer noticed it too but when the tech guy came to look it couldn't be repeated and he had no idea and said it was a random glitch. Looks like you guys know more than their service department.

Yeah there are a lot of electronics but the nav etc would be fast the next time after the initial boot up if you are doing short trips etc.

How many hours before it decides to go to sleep and need a formal boot up? (eg 2 hours, overnight etc?)

OK I've been letting it boot up on screen and the camera has no problems anymore. Just have to be patient for those extra 5 seconds.
Opening the door first and waiting 5 seconds before switching ignition doesn't seem to make any difference.
