Newbie MKVI GTI Speedometer Light Adjustment Not Working

    Hi newbie here first post.

Finally got my first MKVI Golf GTI with 54000 km on meter. Strangely the speedometer back light adjustment seems not working. There was a adjustment switch with the low bean height adjustment switch, but it doesn't seems to be working. Is it because it's using some automatic adjustment according to the environment light level?

    Any comments appreciated.

Did you try the adjustment at night? It looks bright on daylight but it's just the environment light.

Hmmmm ... I will try that. But the thing is there was no brightness change at all when I adjust during the day.

Yeah I would recommend playing with it at night too - I don't really notice whether or not the instrument lights are on or not during the day. The dial also adjusts the brightness of the various controls on your door (mirror & electric window).

The dial next to it adjusts the height of the mirrors. In normal driving keep it at it's highest, and then lower it when loading up the boot with heavy stuff and/or towing a trailer or something (manual discusses this).

    Finally figure this out!

It turns out that you can only adjust the speedometer back light level when you have the head lights on. It doesn't work during the day when no head light on. I drove to a shopping center with under ground car parking, so I would be able to adjust it when the head light is on.

Thanks guys for all your support.

No probs - always got my lights set to Auto, hence the comments above.
