New turbo needed on 2010 TSI Golf ... anyone else with same problem

Hi all my better half was driving the car this morning when the oil light came on ... I told her just to swing by a dealer that she passes on the way to work to check it (as I looked at the oil level 2 days ago and was on the full line).

After half an hour of looking at the car they said the oil was fine and still at the full mark but they think the turbo has had it and needs replacing.... followed by we cant book the car in with a replacement car (my partner needs this as she does LOTS of driving for work) until september 8th, they then said if it stops working all together then they will pay for the tow from where ever we might be etc etc.

Has anyone had or heard much about the 1.4 TSI turbo going as the mechanic said he has done a few on that motor.

And also does that mean it will keep happening???

I would hope that isn't a common issue, how many kms has the car done?? From my research I haven't seen a heap of turbo replacements, so hopefully it's a one off. Goodluck.

Is it a 90TSI? Except for an incredible oil usage in the first 15,000km mine has been trouble free to 43,000km so far but it really worries me when I read things like this as we had intended to keep this car past 200,000km. Are you going to keep driving it with a blown turbo?

Hi we have got the DSG 118tsi Golf and the car has only done 28,000km and they have been very easy kms over all it has been from melbourne to canberra and melbourne to sydney and spends most of its life on the freeway, I have had the odd burst of fun with it but nothing crazy.

As far as driving it goes we dont have a choice, my car was written off a few weeks ago by a guy who decided he didnt want to give way, so we are down to one car (the golf).... we told VW that the car will most likely have 2-3000kms extra on it by the time they see it again in september as my partner does upto 1000kms a week and they just said oh well ..... so i hope it doesnt encounter further problems due to whatever is happening with the turbo but if it does it will be VW's problem.

I'll keep you updated if you like??

Hi all I looked at the car when it came home last night and it was the engine light that came on not the oil light.... if there are anymore developments I will keep you informed.

So the car is constantly in limp home mode with reduced output I assume?

Ok update..... went to take off from a T-intersection and car temporarily went into limp mode before deciding to move after I was nearly cleaned up by oncoming traffic..... VW will be getting a stern phone call tomorrow!!!!

As a side note there is a thread that just started in the polo 6r page with someone with a new GTI having the same light I had come on .... come on within 200km old .... obviously cars have more or less the same engine so I dont know if this is related.

Anyway I will keep the updates coming
