This whole Mk5 V Mk6 v Polo discussion has gotten far too complicated, it's a simple argument that can be covered using pictures.

MK5 GTi = old model = Sophia Loren

Polo GTi = Pocket Body Builder

MK6 GTi = hot model = Eva Longoria

Correct me if I am wrong, but weren't the Mk5 made in South Africa while the Mk6 made in the home of VW in Wolfsburg?

I know which one I would be going for...

I thought I'd add some humour to the thread.

My brother has a Mk5, and has had the usual tyre deflating and airbag sensors issues.

Triode12, nice bit of trolling comparing them to a rockin roller in the Mk6 section. Just be happy you've got two examples of the car that revived the legend.

MKV 3Dr GTIs, the 3Dr and 5Dr Pirelli's were made in Wolfsburg.
My beef with the Mk6 isn't that isn't well made - I will give it that. But the refinement that those improvements have made has diluted the experience somewhat. And the looks of the rear takes some getting used to. Still not loving it.

Just like the the NA Mazda MX5s are still considered the best to drive even though the NB and NC versions are technically better cars.

Fair enough, to each his own

Major differences between the Golf and Polo apart form the size will be in the Ride Quality and NVH Levels as they are built to a difference price point... The golf will be superior... My Polo GTI has quite rubbish ride quality to be fair compared to my mates mk5 GT and the misses Astra

I have the Mk6, but far prefer the look of the Mk5. The M6 has lost the nice continuous lines of the Mk5, especially obvious with the rear lights and the front grille. As for how they drive, never driven the Mk5.
