Got my GTI just before Xmas. From the word go I had issues in sports mode with violent downshifts, like hitting a pothole. In drive or in manual it was fine. Initially it would happen in maybe 1 in 5 to 1 in 10 downshifts, third to second, or second to first. I was assured it would learn how I drive and adjust accordingly. And it did improve, and in the end only really played up on twisty turny mountains.
Anyway, after 2 months of it not going away completely, Austral determined there was actually a fault with the Mechatronics unit and got approval to have it replaced.
Had to wait 4 weeks or so for it to arrive, and now today I picked up the "new car" and have spent the evening driving around some of the local hills. Very, very happy now. When it downshifts now, the shwishhhhh sound from the engine sounds so cool. And I couldn't make it jolt at all. And even in plain drive mode now, it downshifts much quicker when braking coming down a hill or going into a corner. Don't know how much of that is the new mechatronic unit and now much is due to them resetting the factory settings. Whatever the case, I'm very happy.
Do all Mk6's sound this good and feel this good to drive or am I just extra lucky?
Oh, thanks Austral![]()
Sounds like a great resolution to your issues![]()
