Just noticed in the latest VW mag in the Volkswagen showroom liftout
a new Golf Diesel 1.6litres with option of 7 speed DSG.
Could not find anything on their website but searching the web brings up
a similar motor for the polo which they claim a fuel figure of 3.8L/100km
If I can get my Jetta down to 3.9l/100km Newcastle/Sydney fwy from a factory
standard consumption figure of 5.8l/100 ,I would love to see how much better
than 3.8L/100km it would be possible to achieve with this new diesel.
From the brochure it will be available with the MY10 model.

That's great news! That was a hole in the Golf line-up until now.
They're already available in the UK.
5-speed manual:
Urban - 5.7L/100km
Extra-Urban - 3.8L/100km for the 90PS model, 3.9L/100km for the 105PS model
Combined - 4.5L/100km
7-speed DSG:
Urban - 5.6L/100km
Extra-Urban - 4.2L/100km
Combined - 4.7L/100km

The manual appears to be a lot better on the open road.
