    MY10 2009 Build vs 2010 Build

What is the diff if a new golf is a 2009 built vs 2010 built MY10? Besides the year being a difference, of course.. hehe... Will it have a lower resale value in 4 years time if I decide to sell a 2009 built car? Should the price of a new 2009 built car be lower than 2010 built given that it is older even though there is no gov tax tariff benefit? Just a bit concerned if my dealer decides to give me a 2009 built instead of a 2010...

    There is no difference.

The 'model year' (MY) is what determines any specification changes.

However, the build date is what gets stamped onto the car, and that is what the dealers will look at when determining resale. So yes, it will affect your resale to a certain amount. However, over the long haul, how you look after the car and how many KM's you put on it will have a much bigger influence than whether it was built in 2009 or 2010.

If you have a 2009 built car which you could get, or have to wait 6 months for a 2010 built car - just take the 2009!

Did you dealer say when the car was built?
Mine was built 3rd week of 2010, am happy i am getting a 2010 built car.

Although i reckon in June/July when they start building the new model (MY11 or new revision?) i assume they will have bluetooth or something as standard!
    Just speculation of course!!

When I signed the deal, he was suppose to secure a car as soon as it arrives at the port but he was unable to do so. He is now getting it from another dealer - potentially could be 2009 MY10.

If only I can wait for the MY11! ahha.. My previous car has bluetooth and I would definitely be missing this feature in my new golf. Do you know of any additional features? Could be called the tech + comfort package! haha

No Idea what the next one will have. Me dealer thinks it will only be like another colour or something. But knowing my luck it will have all the stuff you pay for as standard, ie bluetooth, mdi etc.

Just have to wait and see i guess

One small other factor one might consider is insurance premium on different years - with the more recent year 2010 vs 2009 for example, even if there aren't any specifications changes etc, its still seen by insurance companies as a different model essentially. Hence all statistics gathered for the 2009 model would be separate from the 2010 model. At the point I purchased my insurance there was a lack of any real statistics on the 2010 model Golf vs the 2009, which lead to a lower premium based on essentially the same car.

When scouting around for quotes there was some slight confusion on my part since my car was built DEC 2009, and complianced here in FEB 2010. I'm with AAMI and they take the compliance year as the "year" for the car. So for those with cars built late 2009, just keep that in mind.

insurance companies won't go on build date though. The rego sticker would say 2010 golf, insurance it would be insured as a 2010 model also

Covered that in my previous post, basically its the compliance date they look at, not the manufacturer date, when assessing which "year" the car is.
