    Mud Flaps...

Had a search of the forum and it didn't turn up much on mud flaps.

Are they worth it in terms of function (stopping the tyres from flicking up crap onto the paintwork)? And what are people thoughts on them look wise?

I'm personally undecided. We haven't ordered them on our Golf (didn't even discuss options with the dealer TBH) but I'm starting to wonder if I should add them on. I assume they are a dealer fitted 'accessory'?

From what I have gleaned the cost would be aroun $2-300 to have them fitted?

I think its a personal thing as far as looks go. I have always had them and found they assist in protection but not 100%. There should be one in your local show room with a set on check it out in the flesh and see.

I've got them on my polo. They don't cost a lot so price shouldn't be a decidng factor. What u should consider is If you will take it off road. I find they don't help much when I'm offroad as the dust gets everywhere still but it's better than nothing.

Mine gets a very dirty bum compared to the rest of the car, so mud flaps would probably help. But I wouldn't get them if they looked like crap.

Golf's have always been notorious for having a dirty rear end, due to the wheels being so far back in the corner it cause a lot of spray to then get sucked onto the rear at speed.

As for mud flaps, i donmt reckon they are worth it, ruin the look of the car and its not really that bad to keep it clean.

Even with mud flaps the rear will still get dirty

That's just the nature of a hatchback... has happened to all my hatchback cars. That's also part of the reason that hatchbacks have rear windscreen wipers.

In my experience mud flaps don't really prevent the back of the car getting filthy. I would consider them if I was intending to do a lot of driving on non-sealed roads. Other than that I'd suggest putting the $300 towards some Venture Shield paint protection film (I think that's what it is called)...

Yeah - I've had a few hatchbacks and the VW's get far dirtier than the other brands.

Only if you plan on taking it off-road.
