As Coreying said to you VW Convert, Nic was having some fun. If you take yourself that seriously that you find that hard to accept, then you need to take a step back and chill. No-one is interested in how many big gearboxes you have driven and you are being unnecessarily antagonistic by taking offence. None was meant.

As to say what you mean, etc, are you telling us you've never made a jest? Lighten up.

    Hi Simon,

If you are suggesting I should have ignored the post and not responded, perhaps you should have ignored my post and not responded also.

Nic has made only one post in this thread and (rightly or wrongly) I've found it disagreeable and responded accordingly, Nic has an equal opportunity to respond and clarify her comments. Why do you have to respond on her behalf?

Not too long ago I was told by another member not once, but twice that I was "dumb" for getting my car serviced by a dealer, I don’t recall you having come to my defence on that occasion. http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newf...2&postcount=23 Is there one rule for males and a different on for females?

If you want to chip me, please feel free to do so in a PM, it is not appropriate for you to do so publicly.

    Cheers

settle down princess she was only having a stir and you took the bait.

    interwebs... serious business.

Oh, back on topic - the 118TSI is a manual as Mrs Dopey wanted something "sporty" and especially wanted proper manual. We've also got an Auto car which I *really* prefer for daily driving duties. I get tired of commuting in traffic all the time with a manual. My Nissan is of course manual too, as its sole purpose is a car to have fun with. DSG - definitely has big appeal to me, in fact whatever VW I choose next to sit next to the 118TSI in the garage will be DSG. Best of both worlds that way. The only time I regret the 118TSI being manual is when I'm stuck in peak hour traffic for an hour+ and get sick of having to creep up a car length and stop constantly.

If you have an issue with my post please feel free to escalate to Senior Moderators. Perhaps, by your own standard, if you had an issue with Nic's post you should have raised that in a PM to her? Instead you publicly posted your offence, hence Coreying responding to you to lighten up, which you didn't, so I also did. As mods we don't ignore posts that we feel cross the boundaries of common sense or are unnecessarily antagonistic.

    Build a bridge...

By the way, had I seen the thread where you were referred to as dumb, I would have infracted the user for doing so. As it was, one of the other mods did so anyway, so I have no idea why you are raising that here.

Perhaps this is so, but how does your insult help the situation? Perhaps your user name explains it?

You're the one having a sook here diddums, help the "situation" yourself and get past whatever it is that's got you so dearly upset.

So as much as I do love the DSG, I really love my manual Polo GTI with stage I APR ECU flash!
Having 328NM of torque in an 1190kg car, and much of that coming in as early as 1750rpm means that even in stop start traffic it is a delight to drive!

In fact, it even has so much torque at 'idle rpms' that this car will literally drive itself in ANY gear without the use of the accelerator. In 1st it idles at about 10kph, 2nd ~14kph, 3rd ~18kph, 4th ~25kph and 5th ~32kph. It'll do this in 5th even if there is a slight hill (large enough for the car to roll backwards if it was stopped and the brake not applied). In 1st it'll even go up decent hills without the accelerator needing to be applied. So as long as the traffic is averaging 10kph, I'm all good

Just for giggles I showed a friend that the car can do 0 to 100kph without even touching the accelerator - into 1st, ease out the clutch, and do that all the way up to 5th without the acelerator, but then we're doing 32kph so you can turn on the cruise control and cheat by accelerating with the + button So it takes like 60 seconds to get to 100, but it does it! lol

So anyway - I'm not sure if I could do that or not with a DSG... but then, I don't think you can do that with most manuals either

I can't believe everyone got so uptight over an obviously throw-away line from Nic...

Anyway, back O/T - when I joined this forum my first post was one in which I asked about whether I should buy a manual 118TSI or a manual 103TDI... As history now shows I did take both for a drive and found that the diesel suited my "relaxed" driving style a little more... Needless to say, what I wasn't expecting was that I'd be so impressed by the DSG... Each to their own - I don't think that having no clutch pedal and not driving a manual makes you a lesser driver or a lesser person... Think about it, if the DSG box wasn't at least half good we would not even be having this debate - conventional torque-converter automatic gearboxes are the death of almost every driver's car there is...

To be honest I am a little concerned of various posts outlining stories of woe with DSG gearboxes - I figure that is what the warranty is for and if it gives me too much grief I'll trade the car early and buy something else (obviously copping the financial hit on the chin)...

One thing is for sure, I'm not gonna die wondering..

The perils of posting drunk... Hope I don't regret this one in the morning...

    Cheers,
    - Anthony.
