    Coolies. So obviously they figure there is more "bang" for your "buck" in the GTI, since it loses all the performance tests.

    I guess that's the buck part coming into it. If Hyundai could do a 2L Getz with sporty suspension for ~$15k drive-away then they might well win even if the 0-100 was 11secs & it did Wakefield in 1:20

    You mean a sporty getz thats been dropped on its nuts with 17 inch chromies and a wild body kit. And don't forget the Sub woofa's bro. ahhh the mid nineties. WTF did people feel the need to try and do up hyundai excels...like trying to polish a turd really

    Generally it's a persons first car. Maybe your parents have thrown in a few $$$ & therefore you are stuck with the "sensible choice" then you get a bit of money & throw it at the car to individualise it. It's been going on for ever.

    I saw a mitsubishi mirage the other day, remember those?! all kitted out with the latest and greatest stuff..... even custom multi colour paint job.... fully sick

    no suprise the gti is no1 - it is the best car in the world for the $$ - interior quality, look and feel, performance, practicality, safety, fuel consumption, comfort, etc etc its just got everything

    Exactly. That was the gist of the text of the article as well. The GTI snuck up and stole No.1 and no one realised - lol

    Please note these figures were in a manual Golf R & GTI, would of been interesting to see the results if they used DSG.
