There's not a huge difference between the mark V and mark Vi. Well not compared to something like the 08 and 09 WRX for example. I'd opt for a Mark V, you should be able to get a bargain, unless money is of no concern.
Hi All,
I have been lurking in the forums for a little bit and have decided to join up. I am thinking of jumping on the Golf bandwagon
I am looking at the MKVI 118TSI with sport pack
or MKV GTI
What are you opinions? Or should I wait for the MKVI GTI which looks pretty darn good I must say. But the wait is just soooo long haha.
Has anyone got actual pictures of MKVI 118TSI with sport pack?
Cheers!!

The Golf VI GTI is supposed to be arriving here later in the year. It really depends on whether or not you want to wait for it to get to here or not. There are some very good deals available on new MK V GTI's at the moment as well so that would be worth consideration. As far as the new MK VI is concerned I don't think you would be disappointed with the new model as the changes made are mainly cosmetic as in body shape and some interior changes, as well as adding an extra gear to the DSG. The diesel of course is a different story as it has changed from the original PD (Pump Duse) system to CR (common rail) injection. Check out the VW site for more details and some pics. Good luck whatever way you go and welcome to the forums.

You're in an enviable position!
I would go for the 2.0T over the TSI any day, its a brilliant motor that works well in DSG or manual.
The V and VI really aren't THAT different but were it my money I'd put a deposit on a new Gti and wait for it.
After, anticipation is a rather grand form of pleasure!
Thanks for the welcome guys. Yeah anticipation is the best. I always find that the shopping part is the best part. hahaha.
At the moment I don't have a vehicle which is sort of making me want to purchase one. Problem with putting a deposit on a new golf GTI now is that prices are not confirmed and I will be unable to bargain.
I really doubt there will be any discounts on the MKVI GTI when it is launched anyway. Unless the economy totally goes to ****s.
I am going for a test drive on Saturday on the 118TFSI. Maybe it will be sufficient. Missus will be driving it mainly from mon-fri and me on the weekends. So maybe that will do, but if the price is so similar to a MKV GTi, I may consider that.
Both are great cars I reckon, just have to choose something I will be happy with.
I'd be waiting personally. It's a bit shallow, but I wouldn't be too keen on spending 40-large on a car that is about to be replaced.
That said, I'd personally want a Mk6 GTI and best guesses are they will be available in Australia late this year. When the 3dr Mk5 GTI was released VW Aus brought in an initial order of about 200 3drs so that initial demand could be met. Customers could choose to take a car in stock (like we did) or order to their preferred spec and wait 3-4 months for the car to be built.
yeah 40k is a lot to spend on something that will be replaced. I have a feeling if I like the 118TSI, I may just pre-order the new Golf GTi lol.
I wonder how much it will cost though. As the discounts on the MKV may be worth it. Does anyone know how low they are willing to go with the current stocks of MKVs?
