    MK6R Engine Knocking

Got a bit of a weird issue on my mk6r. Knocking can be heard, but I can’t figure out where from.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Are we ignoring the fact that its idling like rubbish and this may be why the knocking is occuring (possible engine mount or dog bone mount knock).

Front end is pulled off so what is the history on the car?

I should note, the PCV is hissing quite loud I’m not too sure if that has a huge impact and cause the knock.

I’m getting the front end resprayed

Its certainly not running great mate - i would sort out the reason(s) for that first and you might find the knocking is related and goes away.

Have you scanned the cars ECU for any faults?

The Mk6 R engines are known for killing ignition coil packs causing misfires - although not usually present at idle (more under load) unless properly stuffed. Pretty hard to try and diagnose over the internet.

There are other known issues with the Mk6 R engine, especially now that they are 8-9 years old and most will have 100,000km's on them - but you wouldn't start replacing parts willy nilly without knowing what the root problem is.

Yeah mate, I’ve scanned it and has no error codes. The only issue is the PCV leaking which I’ll be replacing soon

A busted PCV is one of the known common issues on this engine. Get that sorted first and go from there. Surprised there are no fault codes with it idling like that.

Thinking about it, a busted PCV allows vacuum/boost to leak so this could be certainly part of the reason why it's idling poorly.
