Mainly after a good all rounder - something good for general everyday use with reasonable wear, but also at home on the twisties & occasional leisurely squirt around the track. Cheers
Michelin Pilot Super Sports, unbelievably good grip and wear (so far). Not too noisy when cruising, very impressed with these tyres, I would say the best I've ever had.

They certainly should be the ducks guts - if you can find a set
Local tyre shops tried to tell me they would be $450 each but could not obtain them
So I imported two, $320 each including freight, have not fitted them as yet

    I'm currently using Michelin PS3 and Goodyear F1 A2
Both are high performance tyres and both are wearing well (slowly)
I have a preference towards the Goodyear F1A2 for enthusiastic driving
The Michelin PS3 have a little less road noise

I bought the Goodyear F1A2 from Tempe Tyres for $240 each - absolute bargain!

I have used the Conti CS3 on numerous cars
They do last well and do have a pretty good level of road holding
Not great but not bad in the wet
They crash and thump through pot holes - uncomfortable

that's because Michelin Australia does not bring in the PSS in 225 40 18. They only officially bring in the PS3. Any Aust tyre shops that sell PSS in 225 40 18 are likely to have imported them directly from somewhere.

the F1A3 is probably the only option out of the 2 cream of the crop tyres at the moment for those with cars on lease where service & maintenance costs (incl tyres which must be bought locally?) are included in the package.

Goodyear does 4 for 3 occasionally, which brought the set down to $1200-$1300 fitted for 225 40 18 last time I checked. BUT, Tempe Tyres does sell the F1A2 in 225 40 18 for only $250 ea in eBay, + interstate courier $70 + fitting & balancing ($60-$100 in Brisbane), dunno if lease package can accept this kind of purchase.

You can get the Michelin PSSs for about $1300 shipped from Tirerack.

Re: MK6 Wheel / Rim / Tyre Thread

Wanted to try something a little different to the usual suspects, had a set of Hankook Ventus S1 Evo2 fitted and balanced at Jax's for $900. Size 225/40/18.

Grip, so far, in dry and wet conditions is impressive and time will tell how well they wear.

Tyres are significantly quieter than the Bridgestone Potenzas I had on previously.

Old tyres with minimal thread depth is always louder compared to new tyres.

It is funny sometimes when u read tyre reviews and ppl complain about no grip on snow for summer tyres or even harsh ride for low profile tyres.

True, however I remember thinking the Potenzas were a bit noisy when first driving out of the showroom and on my way back to Canberra (and they were new!)

Great find. Im in need of new tyres, and had shortlisted my choice to the Asy2. So, I just called Goodyear Autocentre and they quoted $1078 for 4 fitted, balanced, etc. Thats for 225 40 18.

Jax Tyres have a special on Michelin PS3's - $249 each fitted & balanced. This is for the 235/40R18 though. The 225/40R18 is $329 each. Bit of a bummer, but the 235 is more popular size so economy of scale and all that....fair enough. The guy said I'll get a fleet discount though, as my car is leased through Toyota Fleet Management. The discount is usually pretty good so hopefully it will work out below $300 per tyre. All booked in for Tuesday. Now for new brakes....
