    1. What would be a fair price to ask for a set of 4 used genuine 18 inch Detroits with Continental Sport Contact 2 tyres that have 15,000 klm on them (very even tread where, lots of life as mostly freeway driven). The wheels are in absolute mint condition. These came stock with the car.

    2. What do I need to keep in mind if I want to put on 19 inch OZ Racing Superturismo LM Matt Graphite wheels (or maybe Superturismo GT Black!). Is it a simple case of buy and bolt on? Excuse my ignorance, I really have no clue about the technicalities of wheels.

    Cheers!
Can't say about the sale price for point 1, best bet is to see what they are going for on ebay etc.

For the wheels, you will need to make sure the new size/offset will fit, centrebore is the same and suitable hubcentric rings are available.

I'll be on stock suspension, and I'm thinking 19's will reduce the wheel arch gap with out really affecting drive and performance??

    Cheers!
Detroits usually sell for $1800 to 2k for delivery km ones. Basically pulled off the car new.

Does anyone know (for certain) what the stock Detroit wheel specs are? From what I can gather they are:

    TYRES: 225/40 R18
    WHEELS: 18", 7.5, ET51 (offset). Centrebore 57.1

Also, anyone want my set - Mint condition. Tyres have plenty of life - asking $2,000 for the set (wheels and Tyres). Melbourne pickup only.

If I can get that price, I'm looking at a set of VMR v710 in Matt Black, 19", 8 x ET45, running 235/35 R19 size tyres No idea if they will fit without issue on a stock setup though?!!

    Still learning!

Yes those are the correct specs for the stock Detroits.

The VMRs in that size should be ok, just check it on the offset calculators to see what variance there is.

Per your previous post I can vouch on the OZ ST LMs, albeit I stuck to 18s on mine - you can see some pics here on the sale link: FS: 2010 Mk6 GTI 5 door DSG Red

The 19s will definitely not close the arch gap on stock suspension - it will exaggerate the gap instead. I'm running VWR springs in those pics.

Yes. They are fantastic. Ultra low noise and nice grip in wet and dry.

Cheers Dutch77! The OZ ST LM's do look sweet. I think if I go the VMRs I'll always wish sometimes i went the LMs!

Interesting to hear that the 19's on 235/35 rubber would increase the wheel arch gap. From using calculators I get that it will be reduced by about 6 mm... not as much as I would like as I don't really want to mess with springs..

I spent about 4-5 months debating wheels before settling on the OZs, definitely pleased with the result and I like the look of them in the 18s as well (plus it meant I got to keep my rubber as is.. if you change your mind on size let me know, mine will become available soon most likely).

Re: the gap, your calculations are right, it's just a visual thing that makes the gap look bigger. I think you'll find if you do go 19s that you will eventually want to take it lower as well.. if you google some GTIs on 19s with stock suspension you'll see what I mean.

Compared to a 225/40 R18 tyre, a 235/35 R19 tyre (which is larger in both width and diameter) will reduce the wheel arch gap by approximately 5 mm, but increase the ride height of the car by approximately 6 mm.
