The Bridgestone Turanza ER300 has a similar tyre wear number as the others - but that's not a definative indicator

On the tyre reviews web site the Turanza ER300 is not getting great reviews (it's not a bad tyre however)

    Hi Martin,

I've just come across your other threads comparing the Asymmetric 2 against the Pilot Sport 3. Am I right in saying that you prefer the PS3 - quieter, and puts down power better from standing start?

Lack of traction from standstill is one of the reasons why I'm considering replacing the Turanza ER300 which came with my car. Really bad axle tramp thumping every time the tyres lose traction when accelerating, and mine is only stock - not even stage 1.

Would you suggest I go with the PS3 instead of Asymmetric 2?

    How old is the car?

Could be tired dampers as well. Mine has become quite civilised since fitting Koni Sport. I had 100,000+km so they were well past it - should have done them at about 80,000km

Also what tyre pressure are you running up front.

What happens when you turn off traction control?

Car is only 2 years old, 22,000km so far.

Running 34psi (cold) up front, so I guess it might be up at around 36-38 psi when warm.

With traction control fully disabled, the tyres do spin more freely, but occasionally they still seem to "catch" and that is when the axle tramp thumping starts.

I had a Mk V 2.0 TDi (also with ER300 tyres) before the Mk VI GTi. Absolutely no axle tramp thumping with the TDi. With 320Nm of torque, it was just as easy, if not even easier, to break traction and spin the tyres in the TDi. What would make the GTi more susceptible to axle tramp than the TDi? Less weight up front?

Oh well, none of my theories hold water in your case.

I was running 36-38 in the Octavia but the centres of the tyres were wearing because I just trundle up & down the M5 all week. I'm back to 34 now & there isn't a huge difference in take-off behaviour.

I'm a Michelin fanboi, but the only model they carry in your size (225/45r17) is PS3. PSS or PS2 would be better.

The goodyear F1A2 has a lot of happy customers on this forum.

Yokohama AD08 is well regarded among my mates that do track days

Otherwise Bridgestone S001 or RE050A will have more grip than the touring/comfort focussed ER300.

Anyone offer up any alternatives to the KU31s for bang:buck tyres? Looking to be around ~$160 per corner fitted, good price, just wanted to know if there are any others worth looking at.

Not that i'll have to change tyres in a while, still got at least 10,000kms left in the current ones.

I’m looking for some new tyres for my Mk6 GTi (225/45/17). The Michelin PS3 is one of the tyres on my short list.

I’ve found a shop selling the PS3 in this size in 2 different speed ratings – W & Y, both at the same price. W is the minimum spec for my car, so either will be compliant with the minimum spec.

Given the above, should I go for the W or Y rated tyres for the same price?

I know there are slight differences in the tyre construction to cater for the different speed ratings. Do these different constructions affect the grip available, ride comfort, noise level, performance in the wet, etc?? Or do they only affect the speed at which the tyre falls apart, with all the other paramenters & properties exactly the same?

Ah my bad. 225/40/R18s for the 18inch talladegas

A couple of questions I'm hoping someone can help with answers!

    1. What would be a fair price to ask for a set of 4 used genuine 18 inch Detroits with Continental Sport Contact 2 tyres that have 15,000 klm on them (very even tread where, lots of life as mostly freeway driven). The wheels are in absolute mint condition. These came stock with the car.

    2. What do I need to keep in mind if I want to put on 19 inch OZ Racing Superturismo LM Matt Graphite wheels (or maybe Superturismo GT Black!). Is it a simple case of buy and bolt on? Excuse my ignorance, I really have no clue about the technicalities of wheels.

I'll be on stock suspension, and I'm thinking 19's will reduce the wheel arch gap with out really affecting drive and performance??

    Cheers!
