Has anyone had any experience with the Pirelli Cinturato P7's? Thoughts on road noise and wet performance?

Have tried searching for this in various spots (and tagged it on the end of another thread), but am curious on other people's end results on Australian mk6 GTIs.
I am wanting to avoid any rub issues on a lowered GTI - 20/25mm VWR springs - so have a choice between:
1) 18 x 8 ET48 is -3mm/+9mm (internal/external) over stock Detroits
OR
2) Save $50 and buy 18 x 7.5 ET50 with +1mm/+1mm change over stock ie negligible.
So do I play it 100% and go with near enough to the same size stock wheel, or am I fine with the slightly wider wheel which I assume will give the appearance of slightly filling out the guards a little more (as much as the eye can detect 9mm??).
Staying on 225/40 rubber as well.

my 18x8 +50 wheels with 225 40 18 tyres have not caused any detectable rubbing issues on normal streets. on tracks, i notice the plastic liners still get shaved tiny little bit.
my second set of wheels 18x8 +45 with same sized tyres, did rub when i hit a dip during slow downhill cornering. i did the 'fender screw mod' and the rubbing issue was removed on normal street driving. however on track, the inner plastic liners still get shaved a bit.
the rubbing issue is at the front fenders, the rear ones is an easy fix with more -ve camber, say 1.5 degrees.
different tyres with same size do have variations on the sidewall thickness though, some more protuded some less.
my mk6 is lowered on bilstein pss10 with 1 thumb gap at the front.
18x8 +48 should be fine with 225 40 18, look better than 7.5 +50 if lowered

Thanks for that..!
The car is probably not going to see track work any time soon (although I wouldnt mind at some point), but will enjoy some country drives where downhill dips and the like are common place.
I'm aware of the fender screw mod, sounds like I will need to give this a crack once lowered. The drop I'm going to get sounds like it will be a tad less than yours so I don't think I'll have any issues, but I supposed I can judge this once it has been done - plus I'll see what 18 x 7.5 ET51 looks like at that point as well.
I know this is a fairly conservative move compared to what other people are running, but I am trying to avoid having to fiddle with things to much.

Thanks, you and me both on the colour choices. I'm a little sick of black, white and a few different shades of grey.
