I've recently gone from RE050s with a lot of tread (but noisy) to Michelin PS3. SO much quieter.... but I've only done about 1,000km so far so we'll see.

The Bridgestones were wearing evenly but had just become too noisy - like a wheel bearing. I didn't have an issue with pulling left and right and the grip was still okay... the noise just drove me nuts.

Comes down partly to $. On another car I have switched to Pirellis with a corresponding big drop in noise. After 15,000km
they were still quieter than the RE050s.

I am sure either of these would give you an improvement.
    Steve

Thanks for the advice guys, much appreciated. Steve, which Pirellis did you try? I'm quite pleased to hear most other tyres are quieter than RE050s, hehe. I like their grip but 95% of the time I just listen to them thrumming away...

The wear pattern I was talking about is with the rear wheel camber. The tyres on the back have 3-4mm of tread before the wear bars, but on the inside edges they are down pretty much to the canvas

Maybe, because the tyres wear faster on in the inside edges thanks to the camber, I'm just seeing them wear through there first and it's just how it is.

Either way, thanks for the advice. The car is primarily a commuter and long distance driver, with spirited driving happening opportunistically during those activities, so I've got a firm focus on all-rounding

Update: I called a local tyre place, checked some prices, they let me know that Bridgestone S001 are out to replace the RE050s, focusing on improving wet weather and road noise, so I'm going to give them a go.

The Pirellis I got were P7s. They were around $250 from memory.

Good luck with the new Bridgestones

The bridgestones suck big time. Mine are noisy as and are being replaced early because they are driving me nuts

What size tyres did you buy mate? If they are 17" or 18" that sounds like a great price for PS3's

    Hey all,
if anyone is after a set of genuine 18" detroits (not replicas) with tyres from factory...only done 3,000kms, there is a wrecker in Ingleburn who has a set.
    Nice guy.Autoparts. York Road Ingleburn.
I was about to buy them for my wifes new POLO GTI, but then realised that they were the wrong stud size...damn.
I think they have the Bridestones on them.
    Cheers

Hey guys, this might have been covered already but in a bit of a hurry to find out. Looking at getting a set of 18x8 ET 45's for my gf's golf 6 cabriolet, just wondering if I'm going to have any issues with this offset? I'm looking for an flush fitment as eventually there will be coilovers in the works. If not what would be the maximum offset to run without having any issues. Cheers.

are the golf R and GTI the same height?

I am thinking about getting golf R 19" replica wheels for my gti, but I just wanted to know if they were the same height. I don't want to get the wheels and it look too high.

Also what offset should I get? +45?

Keep in mind I will also be towing a jet ski lol
