OBVIOUSLY NOT WORTH the risk may as well not pay my insurance ! will be buying some falken fk452 instead in the correct load rating... unless someone recommends the Kuhmo KU31 instead?

Well, I didn't actually say that you couldn't get away it (you asked if you could get away with it), did I?

Especially since those tyres can be sourced in the appropriate rating for our cars.

    Hey Guys,
Sorry if this has been asked before but can't seem to find the info. What are the width and offset of the standard 17" detroit wheels on the MK6 GTI?

Am buying a MK6 GTI soon-ish and want to put some 18x8 wheels on but need to know what offset I need, definitely don't want ANY scrubbing whatsoever as will be transporting 4 peeps around regularly. So not after any poke etc. Any help greatly appreciated.

    Cheers
    Simon

    Hey guys,

I have done 29,000km in my GTI with 18" Detroits and the fronts will need replacing very soon. So I am just thinking of putting some nice new rubber on all the rims.

From reading this thread and the EVO and Motor reviews the tyres to aim to get are:

    1. Good Year Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2
    2. Continential Sport Contact 3
    3. Michelin Pilot Sport 3

My mate has a BMW 135i that he has modified and he is recommending that I get Michelin Pilot SUPER sport (the same he has).

What a peoples thoughts on these tyres?

I put a set of Conti Sport 3 on the last car, after recommendations, but found they did not perform that well in the wet. Great in the dry tho and they do seem to wear well. No idea about the Good Year or Michelin though.

It's been a while since I really looked at how much tyre I go through... in the VR6 I know why I killed them so quickly and it was all about how I drove So the question is .... Is this a reflection of the car, the tyre or the driver when it comes to the MK6?
Will be interesting to see how quickly I eat of the stock tyres on the Cabriolet.

For reference my Multivan tyres have 47k on them and still have a little life left in them (will get done soonish) and that's a 2T vehicle (although to be fair the tyres are more commercial rather than performance)

Those are all quality tyres and for most people and daily use, they won't disappoint. All depends on price. The assym 2 r relatively new so not sure on reviews. I'm looking at those in the future
