Don't blame the tyre retailers. It's the wholesalers that are gouging the market. The tyre fitters can't buy them from the importer for the price we pay on the open market.
Yeah I know the importers/wholesalers control the prices but I would have bought local if the price difference wasn't that much.

so on a long enough time frame (and really, not too long in the open market econ we have) the wholesalers will kill themselves out of biz because the retailers will stop buying from them if everyone ends up buying them from the interbubble.

Anyone know if it's worth rotating the tyres on a GTI or just replace the fronts altogether with the same tyre. It's sitting on 18" Dunlops and have done roughly 9000km, heard some buzz it might cause vibrations if I rotate?

U mean rotate front to back. U should be doing that anyway to promote longer tyre wear. Every 10-15k km is ideal.
I'm running Dunlop sport maxx in 235/35/19. Decent tyre so far. Grip is fine, I don't push it, can get scrabbly in the wet tho. Tyre noise is an issue but I've done 11500km and dunlops r known for being loud. Getting yoko s drive next

people should realize most performance summer tyres are noisy, eg: Potenza RE050A, Dunlop Sport Maxx GT / TT, etc... however the Advan Neova AD08's were surprisingly not too loud.

yokohama S drive is a touring tyre, so the noise should be better, but don't expect same dry grip level.

i use Michelin Primacy HP's (touring category) on my other car and they were fairly quiet on the roads Syd - Bne. But when i did the same roads with the GTI, the RE050A's were definitely louder.

Almost. Now just have to find an 18x8 that I'll like on my daily and come in ET50! Found a few in ET45 but I'm thinking that extra 5mm to the guards will rub under full load given the 19's did before I removed those stupid fender attachments. Getting close to the end!

Haha yeh I wasn't 100% until doing more research and talking to a vicroads engineer. Figure always better to be cautious with these things.

I don't think I've ever had any Dunlop fitted that wasn't noisy. Maybe its a feature ?

I'm running 19 oz racing rims that are +45 and lowered with no rubbing and I haven't removed the fender screw.

i think each person's perception about rubbing is not consistent.

For 18x8 +45 or more aggressive the rubbing occurs in a lowered car, when cornering hard or driving fast on deep dip, on track / twisties.

Won't happen while driving normally at legal limits on normal streets. If it does, then your wheels / tyres are way too aggressive OR you drive too fast on public roads!

The Wooduck's Golf R rubbed with his 19" OZ + 235 35 Dunlop GT, then he shaved the hub to fix it. I saw a chunk of the tyre cut by the fender while at Top One Arncliff.

Nah - it is stupid to rotate tires - you are better to wear 2 out at a time, is alot chepaer every tiem you need to buy new ones as you only buy 2.
If you have no vibrations and no pulling to the side then I would 100% not touch it.

Agree with the above. I rotated mine at 16000kms and regretted it. I am told by a very reputable and reliable source (who once we chatted didnt even want me to book in for a balance) that our cars are prone to heel and toe tyre wear on the non drive axle. so, when you put your rears on teh front, you get a horrible noise, but no vibration. esp with the re050's.
4,000km's later and it's still there.. i havent got the energy to rotate them back to whence they came from!
More opportunites have been lost from indecision, rather than wrong decision....
