The speed rating doesn't have much impact other than the RE-11's I mentioned earlier. The load rating seems to be the main protagonist.

Thanks for that list dave_r.

I had started to write about how we had this "discussion" in a thread with an R32 person who had moved to 19" wheels and then couldn't find any tyres which were legal based on the tyre placard on his car (which didn't have 19", but had 18's at 95Y from memory). One of the things that I established at that time was that there were plenty of suitable tyres for the 19" Golf R peeps.

I'd personally be going for the Goodyear F1A or F1A2 depending on who has the best price and supply of them.
Do goodyear still have the "buy 3 get 4" deal on? If so, they're quite competitive with Tirerack to just purchase locally.

There is indeed a few options but which are any good is the hard part!

The Goodyear F1A has won so many round ups it's not funny... the F1A2 has improved that even more, and has won practically every round up thus far too. The only time something seems to beat them is when the round ups are looking for something "more specific", like the "ultimate dry tyre" or "track tyre" or "wet tyre", rather than "all round high performance".

Anyway I've gotta order a set of tyres ASAP but finding a set of suitable replacements for the R a right pain in the rear end! Manufacturer requirements are 235/35R19 91Y but those last 3 characters are the painful bit and OEM Dunlop's aren't listed anymore.

tirerack get about 20 hits for your spec once you take out the M&S, etc - not sure what their stock situation is though.

What about Michelin Pilot SuperSport? or Continental Extreme Contact DW? A few others there I'd consider (Sumitomo, Goodyear F1A, Bridgestone S04) but I'm sure you can work the search engine.

Corey, those reviews don't help with performance on the track and the road performance is going to be similar enough to be a non issue for me. Not fussed on road noise either.

Brad, you're right there are 31 hits for 91Y in that size, but there are quite a few duplicates and I ignored the Pzeros etc due to them being too expensive.

PSS are probably a great street only option but they did not get good feedback yesterday around the track so they're not on my radar

I culled brands that I wouldn't buy myself & tried to limit the spend to USD230 to get in under the $1k limit.

I thought PSS was the PS2 replacement? Therefore aimed at occasional track use?

If the track performance is important & you do a few trackdays then would you be better off buying some 18"s for track days?

I thought the PSS would be a shoe in as well but the feedback from another Golf R driver yesterday at Sandown said otherwise.

Yes a 2nd set of wheels is the ultimate option but I'd rather burn a set of tyres a year than have to worry about changing wheels, storing them and the initial outlay. I'm not chasing lap times anyway.

Michelin PS3 $253.00

Which store is this? I had two fitted at the front about a month ago and I was quoted $280, and that was on special! But the PS3 is definitely a step up from the stock RE050s though.

The PS3 is the replacement for the PS2. The PSS is meant to be the performance flagship for Michelin and it sits above the PS3. From what I've read the PSS is more focused on dry road performance though.
