I think you'll find they are 2008 build (saw a post from TR at GOLFMK6 the other day). They've been kept in a climate controled building at Dunlop/Goodyears warehouse facility.

If you want a tire that is well cured & you tend to do a lot of miles / wear your tyres out quickly then they might be right for you.

sounds like cheese and wine, aged for quality?

but well cured tyres = harder rubber with age = less grip

Ended up going with the Conti CS3's, managed to get a pretty good price locally on eBay. Just replacing the fronts this time around. Next time I'll do all four, and will probably go with the Michelin PSS3's or Goodyear Eagle F1 asymms or whatever happens to be of a good standing at the time.

After hitting some flat metal 'thing' on the way to work (in Brisbane) on Friday, I get a warning light 'Check Tyres'. I went to a servo and checked and all seemed OK. I topped up the air and reset the TPMS.

On the way home I get the same warning - pull over and check, Front Left is 10-12psi down and Front Right is also down 5-6psi.

Went to Beaurepairs and confirmed that I had a chunk (albeit a small one) in my Front Left and some damage to the Front Right.

Long story short they needed replacement...

Holy crap they are expensive @ ~$800 each. I really had no option.

So, have I just been bent over the proverbial barrel? I have 19" wheels, so 235/35 ZR19 is the tyre size.

Would like to know what other people have been paying as I would like to get the rears done in 500-800km.

I'm not a fan of the Dunlops

Needless to say, I wont be replacing them with same when mine are due...

Yeah that is the drawback in getting 19s, there are only so many brands about.. the other option you have is to goto tirerack and import them for 1/2 the price and have them put on locally

Hello all,

most of the discussion in this thread seems to focus on GTIs and Rs, are the tyre recommendations still relatively valid for a 103TDI with the sport pack?

I need some 225/45 R17s to replace the Bridgestone RE050s. They are still OK at 42,000kms but the rears have worn really poorly on the back with the odd camber. I rotated once at 15,000km but got the same issues described by others - noisy, pulling left and right, etc. due to the poor wear on the back.

So, do you know if there's anything that can be done about the camber on the rear, or just accept it and let it happen?

Secondly, is there any reason why I shouldn't go for whats been discussed earlier like the goodyear eagle f1s? The RE050s are too noisy for my liking.

there are local options under 1K, that ware not too bad. thats for a set of 4.

check out ebay as a price guide (search string: 235 35 19)

they are esseantially the same cars, so tyre and rim talk is pretty much tranferrable.
as far as ur wearing of tyres, get an alignment done. i rotate every service at 15k km and so far ive had even and excellent wear. i had an align done recently and the guys at the tyre shop remarked how even the wear is on all four.
only thng is rotate regularly and align at say 20k km.
