dont know if this will help but when i reverse out of my drive i can hear the pads on the disks in the rear brakes but its the only time i hear it.
Commuting longer distances so decided to take a punt on the new bluemotion. It's a great piece of kit and i still manage 4.2 Litres per 100km on freeway even though I'm not light footed! Honeymoon period has been good except for someone running into the back of me after three weeks owning. Was pretty gutted, but insurance had it back like new in less than two weeks. Driving well throughout and no complaints until I clocked up about 6000kms two weeks ago.
Now I'm hearing an intermittent grinding noise from frontend when braking at low speed. It sounds like metal on metal. Had the dealer check it out and they did not hear it on a test run so told me there was nothing wrong; said it was probably just dirt.
Next day noises were back and it seems it's only when you are rolling along in traffic or below 50kmh, it grinds and squeals as you brake and continues for a small amount of time as you take off. It's loud enough for pedestrians to stop and look at you. It sometimes sounds like something is loose. I've got it booked in at dealer next week for another look. I reckon it might be dodgy front caliper or handbrake? It also has regen braking, so I wonder if this is to blame as it's new to Oz golfs.
Anyhow, it has slightly spoiled an otherwise ace car. Anyone else has a problem like this? Any suggestions on what I should be making sure the dealer checks out next week?
Cheers!

Will do, fingers crossed we hear it. Cheers
A friend had a problem on his mk5 which sounds a little like what you described. ie intermittant metal scrapping sound. I found that the heat shield for the front brakes was bent and rubbing on the disk.
