    MK6 state of play

    Hi All,

Long time reader first time poster.

Quick one, do we know the state of play in regards to the MK6 issues?
I originally had a mk3 golf way back and loved it.

My german wife needs a new car and is pushing hard for a golf obviously, i took a mk6 118tsi on the weekend (86kms full service history) but it looks like this was literally a time bomb between bent pistons and the 7speed dry dsg box.

What's the current state of play?

Is the TDI 6 speed wet DSG the pick of the bunch?
or the 92 tsi with a 6 speed?

The mk7 seem's to use a 7 speed DSG only i haven't been able to find with my googlefu if this is a dry or a wet version?

    Thanks heaps!

Avoid the 118TSI in the Mk6 Golf at all costs - regardless of what ever recalls etc is claims to have. They are an absolute disaster of an engine.

Depending on your budget, the 77TSI and 90TSI in the Mk6 are great little engines, but i would only get one with a manual gearbox, as the DSG fitted to these is the problematic 7 speed dry clutch unit.

Otherwise the 103TDI with either the manual or the 6 speed wet clutch DSG is a solid choice.
