MK6 Replacement Brake Pad Thread

wasnt sure where to post this but since this is the mk6 section i thought i might give it a go

)

So as i was getting my major service done i got told that i need new front rotors and brake pads for my GTI, the quote at the dealership with labor and parts was from top of my head $670, i'm looking at possible alternatives. Any referral or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Call GSL Rally sport for a quote on the parts and Jmac who does servicing at the same place, for the fitting. TBH That price doesn't sound like overkill for VW parts.

Obviously after market stuff will be cheaper. Have you looked to see how bad they are? They might last you another year?

on my last car (I must confess, a Camry), my dealer told me I needed new brakes.
I needed a pink slip on it six months later and they were still a solid pass (25 per cent left)

I think the staff are encouraged to "upsell" a fair bit.

OTOH, you wouldn't believe how annoyed people get having to come back between services. Communication is sadly lacking on both sides of the dealership counter - especially those folk that think their car is an appliance.

Call GSL and ask for Remsa pads. Front pads will cost you about $140 or so and rears are about $100. They are awesome pads and heaps lower dust than the stock VW pads. GSL will also be able to source you some new disks too.

Has any one had experience with ceramic brake pads on a golf r. I am thinking of replaceing my oem pads for new ceramic pads from Ate ceramic pads. I am sick of cleaning my wheels of all the black dust coming off the original pads. Car has only 800 on the oem pads.

I replaced the OEM pads for the ones recommended by Lucas_R. Much easier to keep the wheels clean now.

I'm looking for a set of brake pads that are low dust and quiet. Anyone have any recommendations? Street use only on a 2010 GTI.

I recently went from bendix ultimate (stock spec) to EBC redstuff on my allroad - a lot less dust (there is still some though) and they seem to perform better too. Not sure about noise, brakes are basically silent anyway.
