I did t3 front and t2 rear and Remsa pads all round
Some great information in this thread and I'm almost tempted to replace my own pads however just had the 75k service done on my MKVI GTI and they told me I need the front pads done and also the callipers. When questioned they said they always do both. Seemed strange to me but wondered if anyone else has found this or are they just upselling? They also advised has to be done in the next 1000-2000km and there is 5mm thickness.
If you are replacing your pad the discs will need machining but is not really cost effective and also the discs may end up too thin after machining. I only got 50k out of mine with some track work so you have done well to get 75k. The stock discs are soft so I don't think they are upselling. I would not replace the discs with OEM nor pads. Feel you disc now to see how much lip is on the outside edge of the face. This will give you an indication on how much thinner they now are.
I think you mean disks not calipers
Quite common to replace the disks at those sort of km's, and the pads are quite aggressive and the disks are quite soft - so they wear out quickly. Grab new disks (either OEM or aftermarket like DBA) and then get some less dusty pads like the Remsa pads i am using. Ive had these pads on my Golf R and now on my GTI and they are great.
I have an ECS front and rear brake upgrade on my golf R mk6, highly recommended you investigate this as an option.
It would be pads & disc rotors, not pads & calipers. Pads & rotors are normal on a Euro.
The OEM pads are 14mm thick when new. With 9mm of wear in 75,000km and a minimum pad thickness of 2mm (VW's parameters in the workshop manual), you have about 25,000km of pad life remaining. Even being conservative, you have at least 10,000km to work out what you need to do and get some alternative prices.
I don't think the dealership is trying to rip you. By neccessity they have to be conservative in their estimates as they don't want you going metal-on-metal between services.

I used to think I was anal-retentive until I started getting involved in car forums
Any feedback on QFM Euro pads?
Also noticed that the 118TSI seems to have three possible rear pad sizes. Confusement.
