I have same issue for my 12.5 GTI- dealer fitted R tails and no DRL's (halogens)- took back to dealer last week and they advised no solution, i.e cant have DRL's if have R tails! Its hard to follow the link Adam, too much info. Can anyone summarise the coding solution?

Mate, that one post is really not that difficult to read. However if you need it paraphrased:

    • The DRLs are not functional, and cannot be enabled or disabled according to the procedure in the manual.

If you have a GTI built after week 45 2009 and with halogen headlights, I would try byte 18 = 15 (00010101) first.
My car (MY10, halogens, R Tails) has fully-functional DRLs now with the correct coding for my car.

Just went back to mechanic to get the code changed but vcds wouldnt allow us to alter byte 18. Only could choose from dropdown box. Have the bulb out error back up on dash for now until i find a fix. Any ideas? 15 is what it needs to be! Very frustrating

We went through this a few pages back mate. Look a the post on this page that shows the VCDS screen. http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/foru...-40280-88.html

You will see that the yellow figures in the top line are the same as the green ones that are in pairs in line 2. Underneath that you have the drop down box that doesn't contain the code 15 that you need.
What you need to do is count across in the top line until you get to the equivalent figures for byte 18 in the second line ( in this case "04") and put your cursor after the 04. Backspace twice and enter 15 instead of 04. Click exit and Do It!!
Car will now be coded to 15 see pic below to explain further.

    Great post Stu!

Sawbin, you can also override the dropdown and manually enter a value via the LCode 2 window. It's a pity that VCDS isn't overly friendly in the coding department... needing to count bytes across etc.

    Guys,

I just installed the tail lights on my MY12 GTD, and they are just killing me!

I got them in easily enough, but the coding of them really seems to be giving me trouble.

I've tried coding the lights to HEX 15, 21, 22 and 1F and whatever I do, they won't work.

The reverse light will light up the inner left hand tail light (red), and the indicators will make the outer LED lights (red) blink. Nothing will make the indicators (yellow) blink and the reverse lights come (both) come on sometimes when the sidelights are on... Something is really screwy!

I can see you guys have been around these for a while so I would deeply appreciate any assistance you can provide. I'm at my wits end.

    Cheers!

Edit: Apologies I forgot to mention, I've got a MY12 GTD with standard Halogens.

Please help guys, this is really p*ssing me off. Thanks.

Figured it out, son of a B****!!!

The wiring adapters provided were wired up BACKWARDS!..

The earth wire and the indicator wires were back to front!.. No wonder nothing was working....

My good old multimeter once again saved the day!

Coded byte 18 to Hex 15, all good including the DRLs....

    Beauty!
