hey gtiGolf,

where did you get your vagcom cable from? and how much did it set you back if you don't mind me asking? it seems like most people here in WA haven't got the cable and have just gone to the same place to get the coding done. I guess it would be cheaper to do it that way rather than buy the cable as they seem kind of expensive.

Well i'm thinking about some LED tails for the GTI... They look awesome. Give the car a much angrier look, IMO. A few questions - ive had a read through various pages here and have a general idea, but i dont have time to go through 92 pages to confirm!!

The car in question is a 2011 MY12 3dr GTI with just the regular headlights - i understand this effects coding. What coding changes in VAGCOM need to be made to get these tails to work best? Also, where can i get this program(is it free?!?!) and what cable is required?(i assume probably ebay). Im pretty familiar with these sort of programs so messing around with it should be pretty easy for me.

A genuine set of these tails appears to be approx $800. That's a lot of money for a pure cosmetic mod! They can be had for a little over $400 for a set on ebay. Obviously these are aftermarket, not genuine. But they appear to look alright... has anyone tried these? If they do the same job and look more or less identical for a lesser price then it would be a great option!

Don't go cheap - use quality parts...and benefit from those that have made sure it works well.

Those fleabay stuff maybe be half the price but they could also be double the trouble.

Mine OEM set from VW Germany (Ozram contact)arrived today just as I cancelled my GTI order and switched to a lovely RB R! Will put them up for sale shortly at cost approx $685.

Potentially they might be no good, but being so quick to dismiss without any fact is a little unnecessary!

No, tinted as you will have seen on this thread (consistent with those fitted on the R). They look the biz on any color Golf IMO.

You won't find any takers for cheap eBay LEDs in Oz to my knowledge (btw your dealer will sell you OEM R tails for $1,300 so under $700 is a bargain).

And yes, the VW LEDs are made specific to Haolgen or Bi-Xenon lights- mine are made for the more common 'normal' Halogen lighting system, and they come with plug in adapters and have coding instructions which are easy (refer YouTube for great DIY vids)

Yeah sweet. I thought the darker/tinted colour as found on the R's was reffered to as cherry red?

Sounds good. How do the taillights differ between headlights? I was under the impression the tails were the same, but different coding was required?
