Would probably be cheaper to fly past the nearest speed camera and request the photo

My car was built March, 2010 and I had the same problem. I just set it to 04. I then noticed that my DRL's weren't working....I then noticed that it was dark. No fault codes after a scan..

Had the coding performed and it would appear the Central Electrics Module has been updated.... For my June '11 build MY12 GTI, it is now 0651 ie. BCM PQ35 M 110 0651.

The setting was changed from 2 to 4 (15 was not a selectable) and all working as expected w/o the error. A big thanks to Peter from a local VW shop for making the update.

After much mucking about I used LCode 2 and entered the binary code of 00010101 manually and it gave me the value of 15 for byte 18. All works well and I've got my DRL's back.

I wonder if Zircon still has DRL's even if it is a June 11 build?

Thanks Tux, I'll give these settings a go... Sounds like the answer I'm after . Do you know what Central Electric Module version no.? u have, mine is 0615. A match here will be definitive wrt to whether the coding is correct for my car!

According to your post here, your version is 0651, not 0615. The coding for 0615 and Halogens has been confirmed many times over. Depending on the version of VCDS you're using you may need to enter the value in binary (which is why the coding post gives the value in binary as well as hex).

Please see the info at the bottom of the coding post ref what you should check before confirming your lights work as expected. Specifically, you should be checking:

    • No Bulb-Out warnings
    • Indicators and hazards operate correctly
    • Parking lights - correct bulbs and brightness
    • Headlights and taillights (inc high beam and brakes) - correct bulbs and brightness
    • DRLs - correct bulbs and brightness
    • Reverse light
    • Front foglights
    • Rear fog light
    • Inner tails switch off on tailgate release

What you and Tux might be experiencing is the DRL problem (affected me with module 0575 when I coded to 04).

Once you've updated your coding and checked your lights against the list above, please let me know the results so I can update the coding page with the right information.

My car has module 0575 and It had all the symptoms listed by AdamD. ie. the bright parking lights, no DRLs etc. When I manually put the 00010101 in lCode 2 as I said, the value in the byte 18 'box' changed to 15. I didn't have the option of '15' in the drop down box.

Adam/Tux, thanks. Just to update - have had the coding updated with kind assistance from Peter from volkswerks. So to confirm, my module is 0651 and Peter had to force a 15 into byte 18 as it did not appear on drop list.

This time checked all lighting operation and all is good .

Have coded 3 vehicles using the new 15 entry. Felt a bit odd going against the grain using an Lcode2 rather than the ross-tech pull-down list.

all 651 firmware modules - worked perfectly. DRLs now back. all lighting functions are A-OK.

Also coded my MY12 GTI using Lcode2 to set byte 18 to 15. All lights working as expected. I have firmware 651.

Did have a side effect where the chimes for having the key in the ignition the drivers door open (or seatbelt not on) disappeared. Not sure if my car was coded USA from the factory. Setting the Instruments module to US brought the chimes back but I've since changed to Australia (no chimes) for now.
