Saw a standard Golf with LED taillights today, with a spoiler and 18 inch rims. Thought it was a Golf R for a sec before I saw its tailpipes. As for styling, I personally like the LED taillights but prefer the front of the GTI over the R.

I suppose all the GTI owners getting the darker colored LED lights is annoying, but if you got the standard colour LED lights, they are the same as the LED's that are factory fitted options over in Europe.

After all no point having accessories on a GTI that are not what VW ever intended to have in the first place.

The way I see it, it's like a commodore owner fitting HSV brake lights to a SS. Most people would be none the wiser, but for those that do know... It looks abit silly. But that's the way I see it in my head...

That's exactly how I see it in my head. I know a few of my "auto" mates would feel the same.

I'd probably get the LED's that come standard on GTI overseas (although tinted look a bit better and a lot of people were putting the R32 tails on GTI's..)

But improving the safety on your car (LED brake lights illuminate quicker than halogen globes) is way cool!

The lights look better anyway, lets be honest.

+1. I find it amusing when people criticise others (and call the look "silly") for changing their cars so they're no longer as the manufacturer intended, but then don't hesitate to make wholesale changes (wheels, exhausts - inc visible tips, ride height et al) to their own cars.

Car styling and car modifications are a very personal-taste thing - just look at rim choices as a good example of that. I couldn't care less what others think of the look of my car, as long as I'm happy with it and proud of it. As for the taking parts from other VW models (eg the LED tails, or the Omanyt rims I've fitted from a MkV R32) being labelled as "R envy", I reckon people are reading waaay too much into this. Certain R-line styling queues just really work for me... although not all of them.

I like the idea of making tasteful and subtle changes to the look of my cars in the name of personalisation. I don't want to drive around in a car that looks exactly the same as the next one!

The LED brake lights have nothing to do with the R anyway.

The GTI Adidas has LED's as standard
The entire Golf Range in Europe has the option of LED lights

The only 'R Envy' I can see, is people ordering the darker tinted brake lights and fitting them to their Golfs. Like I said before, if you get the normal tinted LED brake lights, its nothing that is specific to the R at all.

I like it when people get upset when you make a comment about changing their car (which you can do for mmm individuality) into another variant of a car of the same model, i guess i assimilate what you are doing to those people who buy a bog stock commode or falcon then try and turn it into a HSV?? I just want one... LMFAO!!!
