Sharkablue, I can confirm that the codebox caused no issues with my DRLs or any other function of the car. I bought the codebox from tmtuning.com for US$39.99 plus shipping.
You'll note there I've stated that the "to be determined" only applies for cars with a central electricts module revision greater than 575. This may not be you - have you got access to a VAG-COM/VCDS to check? My car is a March 2010 build GTI and was A-OK - refer to the detail of my post for more info.

so gents, am i wasting time ordering the LEDs if my car is not due to later on in the year?????(AdamD)
OR should i go ahead, order the LEDs and a codebox???
OR do i just wait till electrics module revision is determined for the MY11 GTi's????

Depends on how impatient you are.
The lights should be available indefinitely (although consider the exchange rate will change). No-one can guarantee that the existing coding will work for later-build cars (of course), so there's always some risk unless you wait till you have your car and scan it with VCDS first to determine your central electrics module revision. I personally think the likelihood of it not working is quite remote, but you need to weigh up the pros and cons.
Why bother with a codebox (and its possible limitations) when you can ask a friendly member with a VAG-COM to do the coding for you, for the price of a six-pack? I did, had a good chat with a fellow VAG enthusiast, and had a number of other features enabled at the same time.

Hi guys and girls. Recently, i juz bought a golf r led in Singapore and i juz realized that they r led doesn't come with rear fog lamp. My question is, as to my knowledge, my soon coming gti in Perth will come with a rear fog lamp as standard so if I'm to retrofit these tail lamps to my car, which I've juz bought in S'pore (without fog lamp), will that cause an error to my car?
Any advice will be appreciated. Thx u
LOL tough for coreying to monitor this thread, listening to all the GTI owners putting LEDs on their car
Its not a bad thing. After all LED lights are an option on all Golfs overseas.
I suppose all the GTI owners getting the darker colored LED lights is annoying, but if you got the standard colour LED lights, they are the same as the LED's that are factory fitted options over in Europe.
I'm personally still debating which colour I get, but I'm leaning towards getting the standard colour over the darker tinted 'R' style LED's. After all no point having accessories on a GTI that are not what VW ever intended to have in the first place.
The way I see it, it's like a commodore owner fitting HSV brake lights to a SS. Most people would be none the wiser, but for those that do know... It looks abit silly. But that's the way I see it in my head...
On the other hand, they are justa different shade of red, what's the big deal?
