Mk6 GTI smoke after downpipe install

    Hey all,

So a while back I installed a catless downpipe on my mk6 gti and ever since, the car has been smoking. It would produce white (haven't really seen the bluish hue yet) smoke as you start to go from a red traffic light, turning around a round-a-bout, at WOT (mainly whiteish-blackish smoke), and when coming to a full stop.

Also mentioning that I am straight piped with catless dp and deleted res+muffler.

I have noticed that the oil level on the dipstick would drop to MIN from MAX in about 1 weeks worth of driving (roughly 400-500kms).

Recently, I installed a Stage 2 tune with crackles and surprisingly during that week and a half of driving with crackles I experienced very little (if any) oil loss and smoke being expelled from the exhaust.

After realising how obnoxious those crackles are while being straight piped I re-tuned the car with no crackles, while still being stage 2. The oil loss and smoke from exhaust started coming again.

I'm just wondering why crackles would, in a way, fix the oil loss and smoking issue?
    PS: no oil leaks

Also thinking about re-installing a muffler and res so I can keep the crackles without being too obnoxious.

    Thanks in advance.

    White/blue smoke = oil burning

Black/grey smoke = unburnt fuel (normal when going full throttle)

Likely you would not have ever noticed this smoke with your stock downpipe as your 2x cats would have absorbed the smoke, but now you have no cats the smoke is going straight out the back.

The crackles tune was likely burning up the oil and fuel to produce the crackles and flames so you wouldnt see the smoke as much.

    Thanks.

I figured as such with the smoke being visible but I just find it weird as even the oil is not being consumed while having crackles.

crackle map adds fuel burn to make the crackles.. not oil burn

I know crackle map uses fuel to make the crackles. I was just wondering why that when I have the stage 2 & crackle map installed, I have much less oil consumption (burning oil) and much less smoke coming out of the exhaust compared to just having a stage 2 map installed where I had heaps of oil consumption and smoke. It’s like the crackles are reducing oil consumption and smoke somehow.
