Thanks for the update Corey, I'm interested to see what the outcome will be
Hey guys. Just touching base to let you all know that progress is occuring. I don't want to say more than that at this stage as I'm not a Volkswagen representative and I don't want to tell you guys one thing, only for something else to happen. But there is progress.
If the rattle isn't trying you completely insane, I would say continued patience might pay off
Thanks for the update Corey, I'm interested to see what the outcome will be
thanks to Corey, Ferni and all others on this thread for the updates - very informative!
I've put just on 2500kms in my first month of ownership of my new GTI, and the rattle is starting to bug me more and more :-|
However, its not so bad as to drive me completely mental, so I'll continue to watch the thread and see what eventuates. Thanks again!
Thanks for your persistence Corey and other.
Corey would you recommend that more of us call up VWA and inform them that we are having the issue? The more people that call the more likely they are to listen?
Let us know, I'm happy to call if it means its 1 extra person thats mentioned the problem.
In my opinion the more people that call and open a case with VW customer care and make sure they leave it open the better.
Be polite, but be persistent... anything besides yes we have a fix and you can book your car into dealership right now = "Sorry but that's not good enough, what else can be done?" keep saying this same thing until you get a satisfactory answer. They will eventually say I will go and speak to someone else and call you back. Make sure they do call you back when they said they would, otherwise call them back and ask for an update. Ask to escalate it (hasn't worked for me yet) if you're not getting anywhere.
Provide the TSB Corey mentioned previously, although that didn't seem to help me much either. I was meant to get a call back this week for an update but didn't happen so I'll be calling them back first thing Monday morning.
Not really. I disagree with Ferni here, simply because that was the tactic we took early on, and all they did was release a "standard letter" and distribute that to all their staff and dealers, so as soon as you turned up at a dealership, they started reading out from the script... lol
So everyone calling up at first possibly even hurt everyone's cause back then, because then the dealers weren't even allow to investigate the issue anymore...
So save yourself the time, frustration and stress...
The wheels are already in motion, they have the info they need now, they will already be in the process of making a decision one way or another.
If this clip is coming from Germany, it makes me wonder whether they would now be installing it during production, ie on MY12 cars.

Hi Corey, many thanks for your efforts. !
Thanks to all who have been pushing this issue.
I have a Skoda with the same driveline and have raised the issue with the noise on multiple times with the dealer...
Always with the same answer. Its normal and we will not fix.
To hear that a simple clip can fix the issue is music to my ears.
I can't wait for VWA to finalise their position on the clip (whether they will install at their cost and whether installation will void warranties).
Thanks again
I've heard clip should be covered under wty. Go see your dealer and check it out.
