My car went in for service today... I raised "The Rattle" with them.
They produced a Service Memo, dated April 2011, which said (along the lines of)...
"The rattle produced between 2,400 and 3,000 RPM during acceleration is a normal operation and is NOT to be repaired".
They knew nothing about a clip... I asked twice!

Do these guys have there heads in the sand or what. How many owners complaining does it take before they even look into it?
I suggest that some of you calm down and give things some time to disseminate up the corporate chain and back down throughout the world.
We already know that VWoA (Volkswagen of America) took it upon themselves to create a TSB (Technical Service Bulliten) on this rattle issue and had their dealerships perform a test and logged the results. They've collated the results and then after about 9 months after we first saw the TSB they have released an official solution, from VWoA. There is no indication that this solution came from VAG in Germany.
Mi16 Man has reported this issue to Rick @ Gerald Slaven yesterday (6th July 2011). From my first hand dealings with Phillip Fairhill, the brand manager at Gerald Slaven, I have faith that they'll investigate the information provided in the forum links and endeavor to contact the relevant parties in VGA (Volkswagen Group Australia) and if necessary, VWoA and VAG in Germany, to get the status on the availability of the solution for Australia.
For all any of us know, VAG may already be aware of the solution but waiting to see the customer feedback after a few months of usage in America, before disseminating the solution to the rest of the world.
I'll also make sure that Phillip is aware of this new information so that he knows what Rick is up to (if he doesn't already). If they hit road blocks and are not able to acquire this solution for Australia, then we all know we have options. We can directly contact VGA and lodge complaints and provide the with the VWoA TSB for the solution. We can also contact the VAG CEO in Germany and lodge the same complaint. We never get to speak to Martin Winterkorn himself, but his office has been helpful in the past in resolving what has been happening with other issues (like the recent Polo GTI availability issues).
Things take time guys, so please be patient and productive with your focus on this issue.
After picking up my Mk6 GTI a couple days ago i can confirm that on hard acceleration, between around 2500 - 5000 rpm, i hear a faint rattle. Doesn't sound like loss of traction or axle- seems to be coming from the rear of the car. Almost like there's a tiny bolt loose somewhere on the cat con?
However it's very very faint. Potentially i only noticed it because i'd already read this damn thread!
My dealer told me this is normal as they have been advised to by vwa. Time to escalate to vwa.
I'm heading to Chicago in two weeks. Gonna see if I can just pickup some of these clips and bring them back with me.
