    And that right there is the problem. A simple letter from each person that has this problem to VWA explaining to them the problem and how it perhaps doesn't affect your cars service life but surely affects your driving experience.

    We have to stand together and fight VWA or they will not do anything about it.

    If anyone else is interested in raising this issue with VWA this is the person I emailed - Anke.Koeckler@volkswagen.com.au

    Nah - there's no possible way for it to only be $15k.

    The Stage III kit is $10k. But then to use the suspension and brakes from the APR GTI Motor Tuner Challenge Car, you're looking at $3400 for suspension and $4500 for the alcon brakes. That may seem excessive, but you can't just double the power and torque and then skimp on the suspension and brakes! So you're already up for $17,900. The Motor Tuner Challenge car also had full exhaust, diff, clutch, sway bars, wheels and tyres (because the larger brakes required may not fit in the Detroit wheels). Taking their total up to $24,395.

    There would also be $1 to $2k in labour there, depending on who you get to do it, and how many of the supporting mods are done. You then have the engineering costs applicable for your state.

    Don't get me wrong, it's a fantastic package and looking at the other tuning options that were present, it's quite good value, but I find it hard to understand that the rattle could seriously be that annoying that it would be your incentive to go to a Stage III setup.

    Back on topic, since the EA888 is shared with Audi, is anybody aware of any reports of the same problem being reported by Audi owners?

    Hmm, Is it really that impossible to live with or are we just being a bit snobby?

    The BMW M3 E46 is WELL known to have the exhaust rattle (to the point where at low revs, most 46 M3's sound like they are fatally broken), and also My Clio Renaultsport 182 used to do it (as did many other 172/182's as it was a common fault due to normal engine movements and pulsations where the exhaust experiences the point of its natural resonance between about 2000 - 3000rpm).

    If you hate it so much, VW does need to acknowledge that a fix is needed. When I took my 182 into an exhaust shop to get the Milltek Fitted, I asked about the rattle, and he reccommended a braided exhaust connector;

    Looks like that, and the braids absorb any vibration from extractors to exhaust. Cost about $100. Maybe Vw need to offer this to those who are really in the ***** about this..

    There already is a braided flex joint in the stock MK6 GTI exhaust though. Like there was in the MKV.

    Strange then. Perhaps the flex joint still just isn't enough for the vibration from the engine. VW need to trial larger ones?

    Take a photo if you can. It'll make it much clearer what it is that you're describing and where to check.

    I also have this noise in my Jetta. Even though you know it's not causing harm, you can't help but think it's doing something bad as it's simply not a healthy sound.

    My mum's Tiguan also makes this sound.
