As some people have already mentioned in previous post, that noise do get noticeably louder.

    After how many km?
I think it's been a bit blown out of the water, but maybe my noise isn't as bad...

Well that maybe true the car almost done 1,700km. I not particularly pedantic about the noise sometime I would hear it sometimes I don’t. But there’s no mistake while driving home tonight the noise is much more obvious then what I’ve previously experience. One will have to live with that sound until a proper fix is found if that will ever happen.

My GTI is still making the noise at 6500km.
The noise isn't something that stops me enjoying my Golf. However, if I could stop it making the noise the car would be absolutely perfect.
I registered a compaint with Volkswagen Australia through the form on their "contact us" page. A customer service rep called me yesterday and said they would look into the problem (they are also looking into an issue my car has with an engine oil leak that remains unfixed).
If everyone that would like the noise issue addressed registered their complaint on the volkswagen.com.au website then VW might be more inclined to find a solution.
BTW. I found that pulling the wastegate control rod against it's spring and letting it go makes an exact sample of the noise... (did that with the engine cold - obviously!)
    Cheers,
    Cam.

The control rod runs horizontally just below the where the exhaust manifold attaches to the head. You can see it from underneath (when the car is on a hoist or stands) by looking up the back of the engine block. It's a 6mm (approx) dia rod from the actuator to the turbo. The rod would be 20 - 25cm long. Not sure yet if the noise is from the wastegate on the turbo or the actuator. It could even be the rod itself resonating causing the wastegate or actuator to vibrate and make the noise. It would be a real bugger to get to. Probably would need to remove the exhaust manifold and turbo to do the job properly. I couldn't see if there is a brace or mount from the turbo to the actuator. Will have another look soon.
    Cheers,

Gentleman Gentleman, i am not sure where this rattle sound is coming from.. I've tested drove the cars with VW dealership like 3 months before committing to purchase my new ride which having said that will be picking up end of this month.. I have for once during this 3 months of test driving heard any rattle sound.. Seriously.. all i am hearing are the gear changes up and down and the exhaust note.. not sure what is the fuzz all about.

William, William, William, I am sure where the rattle sound is coming from. It's the control rod on the wastegate actuator. It is well documented on other VW forums and also on Audi 3 and Skoda forums with cars that use the same/similar engines.
The fact of the matter is that some people don't notice the noise (like my wife), some people notice it, but don't care and some people (like me) do notice it and their engineering and/or motorsport background says it is not only annoying but fixable.
That VW (worldwide) writes it off as a normal characteristic of the engine is in my opinion, going to bite them very hard in the future.
    Cheers,
    Cam.
PS. Having highlighted the issue of this noise, I hope you notice it in your Golf, afterall, it is a "normal characteristic" according to VW.

If VW made the rattle sound such that it reminded people of some type of insect, then it'd be a stroke of marketing genius.
