Nice car - excluding that squealing noise.
Looks like you are not having much luck with the MK6s. Perhaps you should start looking at used MkVs instead.

That noise, as I said, is not so bad - but it is ruining otherwise amassing experience (I was waiting 25 years for GTI)

I have some experience with MKV

    In Australia:

    Golf V 1.6 Trendline,
    Golf V 2l FSI
    Golf VI 118TSI
    Currently;
    MK6 GTI
    90TSI (my wife & daughter)
    MY16 GTI 40

yeah - I too thought that it had the sound generator, but these websites often just rehash information from overseas markets, and according to Guy_H and others who have worked on MK6's and replaced stock exhausts etc, the Australian delivered MK6's don't have them.

Lol... your dedication to the MKV cause is great. But ultimately flawed. The only reason everyone with a MK6 is worried about this sound is that their cabin isn't rattling so they're noticing other rattles And yes, I know you've said that your MKV isn't rattling, well, you're lucky. Mine and friends MKV's do
Also, as Guy has confirmed, the parts in question are common between the MKV and MK6, so you possibly have the same issue that is described in this thread, you just can't hear it

Wha...? Can't hear you over the rattle coming from our MkVI...

Yes you are right, both my MKVs - NO RATTLE whatsoever, inside or outside.
They are more exciting to drive too.

Sounds like you were one of the lucky few triode, I couldn't hear much over the centre air vent rattles.

Sorry buddy. I just don't equate loudness with excitement. But if you do, all the more power to ya

Why would you when blandness is excitement to you...

Just had a nice new (1600km's old) MK6 GTI DSG red here - test drive before & after flashing - no noise that I would be concerned about. Yes, it did make turbo noise, yes it did make exhaust noise & yes, it had intake noise, but nothing different to the other dozen or so MK6 GTI's I have driven. But yes, they sound completely different to a MKV.

G-Rig, look forward to doing the noise test on yours before the weekend - see if its any different to this one!

Not sure I understand that statement... my MKV Golf GTI with APR Stage I was quicker than a stock Pirelli.... my next car will be quicker than a modified Pirelli...

Being quicker or more refined doesn't necessarily equate to more excitement. Many MX5 owners will attest that the older, slower NA MX5 is far more exciting car to drive than the technically better NB and NC models. As a matter of fact, too much refinement is the reason why the latter models lack the "fun factor" of the NA.

The only MK6 I've tested that still hasn't been robbed of the MKV's "fun factor" is the Golf R I tested almost 2 weeks ago.

You don't have to go fast to have fun. It is the perception of speed- e.g. go-karts don't go that fast in reality but because you are sitting so close to the ground, you feel like you are going a lot faster than you really are.
