This is attempt to record that noise on my iphone ... not sure is it possible to separate it from normal engine, exhaust, road noise ... it is more noticeable when You are actually driving.

    First Recording

On that recording it is not easy to separate it from other noises ... unfortunately iphone is not perfect equipment to record it.
I would like some input from people that reported rattle on their GTIs ... can they identify it

Anyway on that recording You have that famous engine & exhaust noise... plus, in the background, there is that noise, that is not always there (only for short period of time) ... sounds like shshshshshshsh... and than back to normal engine noise.

And it is really more noticeable when You are in the car.

... as I said (in my opinion) it is not annoying as 118TSI squealing noise but still it is annoying (and is it causing any damage?)

That was indicator - sorry but it is looking that recording is not good enough ...

    Just once more.
It is noise between 2000 - 3000 RPM when you accelerate faster
You have normal deep engine noise plus (for few seconds) that "not deep" noise like shshshshshs.
It is more noticeable when You drive - I can hear it even with closed windows

German and UK forums are also talking about that noise.

Yeh, I can hear it... Well I think I can anyway. Does it happen within the first 6 sec's of the video? you can hear a softer kinda wraspy noise....

    Yes it is.

And I think it is more noticeable on that first recording.
Try to separate that deep engine noise from other noises and than concentrate on them ... not easy if you are not sure what are you looking for.

Cool.. Well not really but at least I know what it sounds like now... I'll be sure to keep an ear out when mine arrives.. I must say that I didn't notice it when I went for my test drives... Even though I wasn't paying attention, you still would have been able to hear it if it was that obvious..

ps, i was able to hear it pretty clearly on the second (GTI-2.flv) video too.
