Mine's gone! ~3350kms, the rattle no longer exists...... (6SP Manual).
A friend bought a "new" 07 Golf TDI that was unregistered but had 400km on it. Although she had test driven it she didn't notice it until she was on her way home with it and so she went back and confronted the salesman and dealer principal who were most apologetic and adjusted the deal accordingly.

A demonstrator car is just a name, it can be registered or unregistered. But if the car (demo or not) is unregistered, it needs to have the dealer/temporary plate put on the car so that if anything happens, then the car can be tracked back and driver gouged...I mean appropriately fined.
As for the rattle (to keep this post on topic), I'm used to it now but it's still a little annoying.

Wow. That was an intense read....
Just out of curiosity, does the R suffer from this?
I gather that the MkV has the same issue, but as stated, the different exhaust 'masks' it.
With the R having a freer flowing exhaust, wouldn't it make an appearance on it as well?
Hope its not overly intrusive when I finally get my order.

So there may be a small chance of buying a brand new car in stock that had been test driven by several customers? Is there a certain limit on km where a car has to be transferred to a demo? I asked this dealer several times if it's not a demo as I was allowed to test drive it and probably more people have after me and I kept being told it's a brand new car as it was unregistered. I don't know much about cars but even if I had the car for a year and had to lend it to my best friend for a while I would worry as driving styles might differ. So what about the so-called brand new car that was test driven by several customers. That's one of the main reasons I am not even looking at demos. I saw somewhere on this forum under certain km on the clock dealers are allowed to set it back to 0km? Sorry for going off topic.
It's difficult to answer completely as I'm not a dealer so I don't know all that is allowed or not. But from the experiences I've had, most dealers don't allow anyone to drive a car that isn't set aside for demo purposes but some do, though normally only around the block (i.e. very few kms). Even a brand new car has a few kms on the odometer as it gets driven to a few spots (e.g. onto a boat) and for window tinting, etc. I would probably follow up on that if you were going to be buying a car sitting on the showroom floor of that dealer.
I won't mention anything to bring this back on topic other than if another post is required, that it should go in its own topic.

I have the rattle too. My11.5 gti adidas, dsg. Sounds like a charity tin full of coins rattling behind the stereo between 2k-3k rpm. Started happening about 1800 kms. Not happy.
