I have found this link YouTube - Wastegates - GCG Turbo's on wastegate.
Still unsure why it rattled less when load the car up with more people on the back.

I havnt been back to the dealer yet so cant comment on their QoS but I know they will try and fob me off. It certainly is disapointing to spend premium dollars over the equivelent Jap cars but end up with something that doesnt even match the Jap quality. Road noise, rattles that are coming from everywhere, a crashy ride, wind noise, defects in the paint and that bloody wastegate/exhaust noise just dont cut it in 2010. Not even from Korean built cars.

Ill give the dealer an opportunity to fix these issues and see where we end up. I wont be returning their loan car unless the problems are fixed. What they dont understand is that the service they give me now will determine if I ever buy another VW. For someone that buys a new car every 2.5 years, like others, its worth keeping us happy within reason.

I am with you there. This is the reason why I left Merc and look like I am leaving VW too.
BMW would be my next venture.

I have been searching other forums in regards to this rattle and have a possible fix.......

According to some members on this forum Common rattling noise between 2500-3000rpm cause - VW GTI MKVI Forum / VW Golf MKVI Forum / VW R20 Forum / VW GTI Forum - Golfmk6.com they have singled out the FLEXI bend on the DP as the rattle. Have a read, and if anyone on here has replaced there DP can advise.

    Thanks

Well... that sure is interesting. So basically, if anyone has changed their Downpipe or full exhaust to an APR or Milltek or other custom exhaust, they should immediately have this issue go away.... volunteers?

Sure I'll take the plunge - as long as I can get my three grand back if the noise is still there when it turns out to actually be the wastegate rod....

That's obviously not going to happen, since these exhaust companies have no direct relation to Volkswagen. But if there is anyone who was considering a Stage II upgrade (which I can thoroughly recommend, my Stage II MKV rocked) or wanted a nicer exhaust anyway, then their feedback would be appreciated.

Then you all could return to your dealers and present the information that it's not the wastegate... (or as you said, it still could be...)

I spoke to the service manager about this annoying tinny sound last week when my car
    was there getting looked at.

He acknowledged the sound and was very familiar with it.
I asked him what VW would do about this and he said....if enough of us complain
about it, they should look into it for a fix, but until they get enough complaints, probably
    nothing will happen.
I didnt think to ask who we complain to? Is it our dealerships or to VWA directly?

Any thoughts from you guys on this?
Maybe we should all band together and complain as one to VWA?

Had a customer ring me from WA yesterday - the rattle is 100% the resonance from the downpipe. This customer took it up with VW and had the same answer, anyway, yesterday he had Quattro Motors install the full APR RSC system & the noise was gone immediately.

He is trying to log on to share his experience but wanted me to relay what it was.
