I'll be booking in an inspection to see if the clip has come loose or fallen off altogether. Either way, if that can happen, then a clip is not a permanent resolution. The GTI will be out of warranty in November, so to put up with this rattle for virtually the entire time I've owned the car is completely unacceptable.

No resolution yet - I haven't had the time to get the car booked in. Plus I've noticed that it's nowhere near as bad when it's under 33ish degrees ambient. With Perth's stinking hot summer the rattle has been driving me bonkers, but cooler weather has dulled it somewhat. More testing needed, but needless to say the clip isn't a fix.

Yes I think temps might have something to do with it as well. Especially if the clip has been damaged or installed incorrectly. The first time I got the clip installed the noise never completely went away and was worse when it got hot or the car was driven hard or for long periods.

Anyways I gave it 3 months to "fix" itself as per the stealership's advice but took it in the other day and they replaced the clip under warranty. No more rattles... for now... The service notes said that the original clip was found to have stretched out of specification and hence the warranty replacement.

Is this problem still occurring even in the new models?

rattle when accelerating in 2nd and 3rd gear (manual)

    Hi all

I have only had my gti for a few weeks but i've noticed that there is a rattle like noise that happens when i accelerate in second gear, it seems to kick in around 2k revs and has also happened a number of times in third gear but by far more noticeable in second.

Has anyone else come across this or know what it could be? is it normal?

yep, look for the 'wastegate rattle' thread. Mine did it as well, and there is now a simple fix

I'd say it's your turbo waste gate shaft rattling (common in the current GTI's). The dealerships install a little metal clip on the wastegate which stops the rattle.

    Step 1. Call dealer
Step 2. Ask for when you can book your car in for the "turbo clip" to be installed under warranty.

Had this fix done on MY09 Tiguan. Just bought a GTI last week and it has this same problem, I'm surprised and a bit disappointed they just don't do it pre-delivery now. A bit poor imo.
