    I may look at popping it off again over the weekend and wiping some of that off then - if you are adamant that it may cause issues due to too much grease? Shouldn't take long now that i've done it once already.

    It will just make a mess inside the bell housing. The chance of it contaminating the clutch is remote.

    About the only other thing that happens is it attracts all the clutch dust & creates a fine grinding paste - again, it's only a minor thing.

    If it's an easy removal I'd pull it out & remove the excess from the non-touching parts as that will never lubricate anything anyway.
