Mk6 GTI - How is the front spoiler / lip attached?

Could anyone help me out with some info on how the front spoiler is attached to the main bumper bar on a Mk6 GTI.

Recently scraped it while driving into a driveway which has caused the front spoiler to no longer sit hard up against the main bumper bar.

Had Shipstone panel repair...(a authorised WV panel repair in Brisbane) have a look at it and they were of the opinion that maybe the plastic lugs that protrude up from the spoiler and into the main bar are held in place by an additional clip of some sort. Given that in my case the lugs don't appear to be broken and have a small raised lip on them to which an additional clip of some sort could be attached seems to make sense. However when they contacted VW spares to confirm this the guy at VW were unable to provide any information....thus the panel repair is suggesting that the entire front bumper bar will have to be removed so as to determine how the spoiler is attached!!

To me this seems a bit over the top!!

    Cheers Guys
P.S new to this form and must say its great with lots of use full information!!

Easy to remove, even with the car sitting on the garage floor (do not need to jack it up). It has around 8 screws which you can remove with a flat blade driver or, star shaped tool. Once all screws are removed, it will fall off onto your soft towel/landing spot.

is it just this part that got damaged?

the lip is attached to the bumper with 8-11 torx screws.

if that is the case, you can buy one from:
    Volkswagen Golf VI 2.0T > Exterior > Body > ES#1876538 Lower Lip Spoiler Kit - 5K0898001

VW parts is kind of hopeless, they do most things by your VIN number due to the hundreds of thousands of different parts VW has.

Thanks Mi & nat for your help greatly appreciated. I will attempt to remove the lip and see if I can possibly fix it before splashing out on a new lip. It would seem that from the pics that the plastic lugs that run across the top of the lip have a piece of plastic about say 5mm long that protrude out at 90 degrees which holds the top of the lip hard against the main bar......so in my case it would seem that the 5mm piece of plastic has broken off on the 3 or so plastic lugs either side of the middle torx screw thus allowing the upper edge of the lip to bow down between the torx screws.

Say how do u post pics on this forum…. if I have any luck in fixing this lip I will post a couple of before and after pics…as there must be many others in the same predicament given the number of crap drive ways around the place. I clicked on the “Insert Image” tag which then tells me to enter the URL of my image”…. given that the pics will be on my hard drive this option is useless.

ok, tried to search, but can anyone answer me whether the oem front lip comes standard on the car? im asking because a lot of people mention that there is a gap there and they can get the revozsport or osir cf lips to fill it in
    otherwise, is it optional? cost?

The problem is that you were searching on "lip" when I think that's too short of a term.
I merged your thread into this one, because this shows you how to detach the front spoiler (lip) and therefore answers your question
