    AWESOME post sdhog2002!
Whilst I have no idea if all the technical details are accurate or the best way of doing things, I applaud the effort and detail you've gone to with all the photos and text. Cheers

Great thread. Love the pics and description.

One question...are there any "side effects" of fitting a catch can? I know it catches all the crap that would normally go into the intake but by removing that, are there any other effects. May sound silly but is that oily film used to lube valve stems or anything else etc etc??

Catch can for TSI Mark6 GTI

I have been searching for a catch can kit to fit my car - 2012 Mark6 Golf GTI. Only problem is that it seems there is a charcoal canister fitted(on the australian models) to where various catch cans seem to mount.

Who has fitted a catch can to their Mark6 GTI with TSI engine, what have they bought and how/where does it mount?

Howdy. There was a thread a while back on catch cans for the Mk6 GTI.

See here for a specific DIY guide for fitting one to a MK6 GTi

and see here for the entire thread if you care to read through it all

    Dear duff_boy,
The info provided by Lucas_R is very good indeed, assuming that the 2012 mk6 Gti is the same as the 2011 Gti.
I have fitted the 42DD Catch Can to my Gti. I found the rear (firewall) position unnecessarily inconvenient so mounted mine near the drivers front headlight, right above the alternator. If you are careful and handy, as brackets will be required, this makes for a very accessible placement, both for plumbing and inspection.
I will send you some pictures as I seem to have problems with size when trying to post on the forums.
You will find Greg from Carformance very knowledgeable and helpful.

******* I hope other forum readers read this and comment ********

Where I have found the fitting of the Catch Can ( to both my 2011 Gti and 2010 A4b8 Audi ), I am NOT collecting any liquid. The plumbing is correct in both systems ( as per communication with 42DD USA ), and both cars are running beautifully.
I can see residue on the Can 'dip stick' on both cars. Each car has traveled approx 4-5000 Klms since installation.
I am not inferring that the Can purchase was a waste ( too many other posts have indicated their virtues ), but I am curious just where the gaseous fluid is going.
I hesitate to think that the engine internals of both cars are such that the blow-by oil in suspension is being filtered and being returned to the sump ( I would have preferred to have caught the oil and removed it ).
    I welcome your comments.
    Best Regards
    John
