If you have seen an R32 do what it does best, its impressive. They do need a bit of work to get the best out of them, but if you think that 1 second less in the 0-100 times is not much, why bother with the GTI at all? The 118TSI was Drives car of the year from memory as it had most of the toys and performance without the extra price tag... The VW spec says the 118TSI is 1.1 sec slower than the GTI, practically nothing?

When you start getting fairly fast, 1 sec faster in the 0-100 times is a lot. They do drink like a V8, but it can do things the GTI cant from a FWD perspective.

Don't get me wrong, I think the GTI looks to be a great car and all the reviews talk highly about the MkV to MkVI platform improvements, but the R32 is a great car too, I'd be very happy with one if i had the budget. with the MkVI being so popular, we may see the resale of the R32's dropping quickly and I might end up in one!

The only person copying and pasting from the other thread is you, G-rig. None of the quotes you have used are from this thread and in some cases you have added words which I did not write (as you did in the thread in Mark V forum).

You should be aware that if you are going to use the quote feature you should not edit the words of the person you are quoting (unless you do it within square brackets) for obvious reasons

You wrote all the same stuff in the leather thread and I noticed you just pasted it in here. I fixed the misquote problem yesterday if you bothered to check.

Guys chill the hell out. farkin......

The whole point of this thread was the OP stating he didn't realize the car would take so damn long (it sucks I know) and canceled.

He's now considering his options. Lets get back on topic because he has plenty of info on the GTI vs R32 option.

What else is out there? Second hand 08 S3 perhaps.. keep it for a year or so and re evaluate.

i think it depends if you plan to mod the car or keep it stock. If you plan to mod the car then i dont think the gti is worth it and the extra $ should be put into the golf r but if you plan to keep stock then i guess go for the new gti.

if i had another chance, i would probably choose the r32 and do some tasteful mods like a capristo exhaust like what frenchie has done over at golfmkv forums or go supercharger or turbo (which i have seen in person) but thats big money again.

all in all i wouldn't go for the mk6 gti just because the golf r has alot more potential with none of the downfalls of wheelspin or axle tramp.

My pirelli is enough and will be crazyyyyy once i get all the hardware neccessary for the giac extreme flash

    So?

A lot of people bought the P76. And the Hummer.

Popularity has never been a reliable indicator of anything other than popularity.

As for the environment, I do not know where you gain your insights but that is a big call to make about Golf drivers.

I suspect quite a few GTI owners were swayed from the abominable R32 to the frugal GTI by its far better fuel efficiency.

How much was the GTI you spec'd up? If you ticked too many boxes you should just i'd just consider an S3/R32, won't be disappointed & R32's are a good price for something pretty new.

My GTI RRP was around $51K, I got it on the road for about $46,500 on the top of my head - Had ACC, 18's, Camera etc

I have looked a few R32's on carsales, and there is not many which kinda sux!!! I have seen a few people mention the GEN 2 controller as a good mod for a R32. Any ideas of the KW output once this is fitted? I presume this is like a ECU reflash?? Is that correct

The R32 I have found, that ticks my boxes is a Blue, 3 door, DSG, recaro seats, 21,00klms and asking $45K - which is slightly high as most people are asking around $40K..... Seems like fair price for a car that was $65K 2 years ago...

    Thanks for all the replies

How much do you want to spend? BMW 135i is a wicked car, would love to get one of those! That or an S3 are my top atm (apart from the GTI of course)

I went through a similar situation in 08. Ordered a Clio 197 with xenons in August that was supposed to arrive nov/dec. In October it got delayed a month, in January it got delayed again. I cancelled the order in February, just a ridiculous amount of time, with no information!

Anyway, worked out for the better cos I love my 118TSI, you get so much more car for the money.

And it seems Renault can't give the Clios away!

If I "bothered" to check whether you had fixed your mistakes? Why would you expect me to check?

    But one more time, G-rig:

    1. None of the quotes of mine you have included in this thread and purport to be from this thread are from this thread; and

    2. Even those "quotes" from the other thread you pasted in here contain words I did not write.
