    Mk6 Golf R dyno question

Ok, got access to a dyno and I wanted to do a run stock and with the superchips tune, only issue is it's a 2wd dyno so I would need to have the car in RWD or FWD, preferably RWD as I wouldn't then have to move the dyno forward for the fan.

Does anyone know what fuse to pull to do this? I have done a search and a few different fuse positions have come up.

You will only be able to run it as FWD.

From memory you can just unplug the haldex and run it but it will throw a fault code that will need to be clearedvia vagcom.

The fuse pull method only works for earlyer cars as that fuse is now linked to something important.

Firstly why would you bother putting a tune then only trying it in rwd/fwd?

Secondly, use a 4wd dyno or dont both as you wont have the same torque figures or power figures for either.

And lastly, please for love of god go GIAC or APR and get a decent result lol.

Well looking at all the youtube videos of the APR cars on the dyno they appear to be using a 2wd dyno, anyway I have access to a 2wd dyno that will cost me $0 to use and for comparison purposes it's going to make no difference between the two.

I tested out the superchips/bluefin tune last night and borrowed the wideband from the dyno and took the car for a drive, looking over the data I can't really fault their tune, the AFR's in cruise and at WOT are perfect plus the guys tune for VW racing so I can't see how they would be that bad!

I have invested in the bluefin product but I don't really mind throwing away $700 bucks if the APR tune is that much better, problem is where can you find a true comparison between all the tunes online for the Golf R? There's a lot of positive reviews of the bluefin products on other forums.

I was reading somewhere you can get the APR tune installed for a week to test it out, so I am more than happy to take my car in and get that done to do a comparison between the tunes but my original intention was to see for myself what the difference was between stock and bluefin.

This thread was to discuss how to dyno the Golf R on a 2WD dyno. Lets keep it at that instead of creating the 1000th ECU wars thread....

Someone mentioned that the 4wd dynos confused the haldex as it sees a different speed front-rear and tries to compensate for what it considers to be a loss of traction...

I never had an issue running the s3, and we have never had an issue at any dyno day with over 200 awd cars over the last 5 years running with outputs or how they ran etc?

Not a chip war corey, alternatively we can start a 40 page thread on pre-golf r and ask how many options theres available? LOL .. sorry had to say it, couldnt hold it back hehe.,.

Jason, at the end of the day its personal preference and mine is GIAC as ive had both and find it more 'suited' for me you could say.

Go with whoever you feel is best, and obviously the better support for you. From results on dyno days in Sydney GIAC & APR seem to be the better result makers on af, torque and kw readings but every car does run different and every car does have different mods!

Currently im running GIAC Extreme Tune, FMIC, Miltek TB Exhaust, HPFP, VF Intake so mine is slightly different then the normal tune!

Either choice who you choose, im sure you wont be disappointed with the difference between the two.

    Lol

Forgot to add, he can use the dyno for $0, but just bought a brand new Golf R. Why does the $ matter so much?

Simple, if you were offered something for free would you take it or go pay $150 for three runs? which would bring the total to what $450 over two tunes and the stock map not to mention I can do this outside of regular business hours in my own time. There's also a limited number of places to take your car when it comes to 4WD dynos in Perth.

Now a question for you as I am struggling to understand why every thread ends up this way, why do you feel the need to post crap in a thread that contributes nothing to the question asked?

You can unplug the rear Haldex unit for dyno testing - no problem for a 2wd dyno. Some AWD dyno's & some operators can struggle, so 2WD is an easy option.

P.S. it's not the AFR's you need to watch when testing a tune, its the actual & projected EGT's - we have seen some tunes that are off the readable scale!. I think also the difference in Torque curves will be the most significant thing you will see between tunes.

As Fuzion mentioned, There has been a lot of S3's run in dyno comparisons, and several Golf R's now. Golf R's with stage 1 have pulled around 188kw's wheel, and with the addition of a fuel pump (APR stage 1+) make around 188kw. I think Fuzions one makes ~ 186kw according to the above link with all his mods. Unfortunately none of this shows tractive effort (torque).

Here is a Golf R dyno for comparison (torque visible).
