Fairly sure you can only have two keys at a time - each key has to be synced to the car (quite literally plugged in and connected) before working.

Good friend had a dealer lose a key, and get him a new one (using the above process). Dealer then found the key two weeks later, but it wouldn't work with the car. Said it was a two key max on the car.

No it's not. When I took delivery of my car, one of the keys was scratched. The dealer said no problem, we'll get you another set made up. I now have three sets of keys for my car.

Good to know - I was skeptical when I heard it too. Thanks for clearing things up.

Yeah I have been told the same thing. Although at $500 each, I'd be waiting till I lost one.

I heard the Range Rover and BMW keys are like $700-$800 though.....

Well this is all VERY handy to know. When I picked up my MkVI Adidas recently (2nd hand), I was told "Don't lose the key(s) because they are about ~$2800 to replace". I had a feeling that might have been and exaggeration at first but the sales-guy had an exact figure that he quoted me. Had me somewhat worried to say the least.

If they were $2,800, I would expect the metal fob, VW badge and keyring insert to be platinum with Diamond surrounds!

That sales guy is a dead set muppet

I have 4 fully working keys (including remotes) for my T5 Transporter, and 3 for my Skoda Octavia. I have a vague idea there may be a limit of 5 or 6 per ECU at any one time.

Anytime you have a new key coded to the ECU you will need ALL keys to be present for recoding, any not there will no longer pass the immobiliser test (ie engine will start normally, then cut out after about 2 seconds with an immobiliser error msg/warning light)

Hi. Is it possible to get a key from a wrecked Mk6 Golf and then have it programmed by VW that will then work in my Mk6 Golf.
    Thanks from Graham
