    Mk6 Golf climatronic issues

Hello, i've been experiencing a frustrating issue with my climatronic recently and despite hunting around online i cant seem to find the same symptoms in other forum posts (please forgive me if there are posts about it) the issue is that the temperature control is not functioning properly.
The posts that i have found related to climatronic issues seem to generally revolve around the hvac system not generating very much heat, or conversely not generating cold enough air.
My issue is somewhat different, when i adjust the temperature, on every setting apart from HI it will blow ice cold air conditioned air at me.
If i adjust the temperature knob to any value from LO through to 26 degrees it blows freezing cold air, then if i move it to HI it adjusts the vents and pumps out incredibly hot air.
I have read about climatronic issues related to busted heater cores but the symptoms associated with the heater cores seem to relate to a lack of hot air being generated. Seeing as my car generates heaps of hot air when on HI it leads me to believe that the heater core is working fine.
Just to add to the confusion, approximately 1 in every 5 times i start and drive the car the system appears to work fine and i will be able to adjust the temperature in degree increments but then the next time i go to drive the car it wont be working properly once again.
In conclusion i have a few questions:
Are there any people out there who have experienced these same issues?
Are there any diagrams which depict the various components in the climatronic system? (such as int or ext temp sensors, resistors, flap motors etc)
Using the climatronic diagnostic menu (which i dont really understand) is there a way to diagnose which component fails intermittently?

I apologise if my post is a little long-winded, just wanted to cover all bases first up!

    Thankyou in advance

Have you tried doing a basic setting of the unit, to relearn all the vent and temperature flap positions?

With a suitable scan tool, you should be able to view all the vent flap positions and temps.
