In regards to all the MK6 Golfs. Bluetooth is not standard. Its optional.

The NON Premium Bluetooth offering offically from VW Australia is very basic. It simply turns the Phone button on your streering wheel 'ON'. So you can answer and hang up calls, thats it.
Just wanted to confirm that the NON premium option for BT doesn't have the RSAP limitation and will work with any BT enabled phone, but with very limited functionality (answer / hang up only)?

That is correct. No Remote Sim Access on the basic Bluetooth option. All it does is pretty much make the phone button on your steering wheel work for hang up and answer. That is it.

Which just seems like an awful lot of money to be spending to enable a button on the steering wheel....

When the Basic Skoda unit can be fitted to the MK6 Golf, and has full compatibility with pretty much any bluetooth enabled phone for much the same price.

The only catch is the Skoda kit cannot be installed at your VW Dealer. You have to go to a third party to have this done.

    EDIT:

On 2nd thoughts... There are a few VW and Skoda Dealers combined in Victoria and im sure its the same story with other states. What is stopping you from visiting a dealer that sells both Skoda and VW? and have them order and install the unit?

Does it not also integrate a microphone and audio through car speakers? If so - surely that is of some benefit.

I purchased the Basic Bluetooth with my GTI VI, and although it does simply answer and hangup, and it did cost approximately $750, I'd rather shell out for this functionality than risk a $200+ fine and the loss of 3 demerit points for using my phone whilst driving.

...and yes, the basic kit provides this as well.

Yes it can be installed by a Volkswagen dealer.

They can't order the unit that's why. It's not available in Australia. And even if it were it would be many times the cost of buying from overseas.

The Skoda kit isn't even available from Skoda? Do you know which unit they offer?

It's not offered in Australia so they don't stock the part and you can't order it. No idea what kit they sell here, probably the same basic one that VW offer.

    Fiscon Bluetooth

I'm amazed no one has mentioned the Fiscon Bluetooth unit... it is (apparently) available from dealerships for purchase and install. Anybody has got it installed ?

Search! A number of people have or had it installed. It has issues with newer revisions of firmware on some headunits and it comes from Kufatec a company that offers so so support. The Skoda is a much much better kit without doubt.
