My battery packed it in last week and I figured I had a good run from the original, car bought new September 2011, almost made 4 winters. The only warning signs were slightly longer cranking for two or three starts in the early hours and slightly higher idle a couple of times ( not DPF regens I believe ). I run everything electrical nearly all the time ( I love toys ) DRLs, foggies when needed etc. I do a large percentage of starting/driving at night and last six months or so it has been mainly short trips in and around BrisVegas. 125,244 km at the time of failure. All in all I am a happy Golfer.

How many of you use Delkor batteries?
I've sold one to a mk6 owner so far and he seems happy with it,and have been using them myself in other cars for over a decade now,and have never had one fail inside of 5yrs.

Hi all my battery is on the way out been reading this thread looks like most ppl recommend the OEM Varta batteries as replacement. Just after any other options and where to buy any of the batteries. Any good places with good specials on them?
Thanks all!
Varta & Bosch silver come out of the same factory - so that opens up your options a bit.
I bought my Varta from BatteriesDirect but I'm sure there are options local to you (that make warranty easier).
Look at Yuasa & Panasonic as well

Thanks Brad just sent them an email. What models am I after?
Dunno. They are the specialists. Ask them for the partno and dimensions & post position to make sure it's right.
Seriously, I'd try somewhere local. Google "Varta battery brisbane" or "Bosch battery brisbane" and you'll get plenty of hits local to you.

so im in this situation now. car is 4 years old so happy with howe long the stock batt lasted, but its bloody hard finding a solid answer about what size battery it is so i can find a replacement! im looking into optima yellow tops, what size have people fit in their golf Rs?
Just ring batteries direct in Peakhurst (or Penshurst - I always get the two confused.) The battery is no different to the other Golfs AFAIK

Call somewhere like Battery World and tell them your make and model. They'll know what will suit. They will probably give you the option of Varta, Yuasa and maybe others. The Varta will be about $400 or so, the Yuasa less than $200. They will both work but the Varta is a better battery. They have a different type of cells. I went for the Yuasa, thought I would give it a shot as I went through two Vartas in less than 4 years/84,000km and figured I couldn't do much worse than that with the Yuasa, however YMMV (literally).
