Edit: hmm, that model is not AGM? Perhaps this is why I didn't go for it, not all Silver Dynamic are created equal..
Only the VARTA Stop-Start Plus batteries are AGM. From the same seller, the equivalent model is E39 for $357. Whether this option suits non-stop-start charging systems requires investigation.

Throughout winter, my GTI has been a little more hesitant to turn over - it still only takes one crank of the starter motor to go, but sounds lethargic. Coming into warmer weather I reckon I'll get another 6 months out of it, so 5.5 years is pretty good going.

I had the car serviced by my local dealer yesterday and they picked up the battery was on its way out, but quoted $378 for a replacement OEM battery. Pass.

I can get a Century for about $220, but others in this thread have mentioned Varta and Bosch. Anyone know who to go to in Perth for these brands?

I just Binged Varta Perth & the answer is the #1 hit (challenge batteries, Federal Batteries). Supercheap used to sell Bosch. They both come out of the same factory I'm told. About $230-$250 in the East so $250-$270 with overpaid miners Perth tax I'd guess

    You use Bing??

You underestimate the Perth overpaid miners tax. It's more like 50%.

Stupid company default, locked down search engine. We're also locked into IE and because of conflicts with our asset management system we are still on V 8.0 or 9.0 (I don't look because it makes me cry).

just ebayed Optima Red - they have come down in price $260 delivered, I reckon might be a better choice than Century? I had two Centuries which did not last more than three years. Mate has the red in his Patrol and reckons its been very good.

    Maximo 7

Probably need to take it to PM if you want to know more.

I know nothing about Optima batteries. I had a good run (5+ years) out of the OEM Varta so went with that again.

Beware , I had a service early july , dealer noted battery was down suggested trickle charge , which I can do but ignored .

Drove yesterday , no problems , this morning totally dead , I mean dead , so how do I get in , mmm books are in car .

Called RAA , yes there is a little clip on the door handle drivers door , remove and expose key hole , always read your manual .

    New heavy duty , $195 , bliss , that's a worry 3 years and 2 months a dead battery , admittedly I do a lot of short trips .
